Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a hybrid mix of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. It is a fairly new breed of dog, being created as recently as 2009. Pomskies are generally smallto medium-sized dogs, typically weighing between 15 and 30 pounds when fully-grown. They are known for their gentle, loving nature and are an excellent choice for families, as they will generally get along well with children. Pomskies are intelligent and require regular activity and mental stimulation to stay healthy.
Pomskies are a designer breed that is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. It is not possible to definitively say that they are hypoallergenic because some people can be allergic to any kind of animal while others might not have any allergy at all. The best advice is to spend some time with a Pomskies before deciding if it is the right pet for you.
Pomskies should only be fed food intended for small-breed dogs. Foods like large chunks of raw meat, dairy products, raw eggs, bones, and human food can all be very hazardous for Pomskies. Avoid feeding them human food like cereal, chips, candy, sugary treats, fast food, or anything containing large amounts of salt and fat. In addition, other items such as plants, toxic foods, bird seeds, chewing gum, grapes, raisins, and onions can also be dangerous for a Pomsky, so these should be avoided.
Yes, Pomsky dogs have special requirements. They require regular exercise – at least an hour a day – and a healthy diet to keep them fit and active. Grooming is important too, as they should be brushed and washed every week in order to keep their coat healthy and free from parasites. Socialization is also key; it's important that Pomskies are well socialized from an early age, as this helps them to become confident and responsive to training.
Pomskies vary in size from very small to medium-sized. Generally, they usually range from 8 up to 18 pounds and from 8 to 16 inches in height. It is important to understand that Pomskies are a hybrid dog and no two litters are ever the same; the appearance and size of each dog can vary widely. It is possible to find teacup sized Pomskies; these weigh less than 6-7 lbs and stand 8-12 inches at the shoulder.
It depends on the age and health of your Pomsky, but generally it's a good idea to give them a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day. If they are younger, they should be walked more to keep them healthy and avoid bad habits and difficult behavior further down the line. If an older Pomsky has difficulty walking, it may be a good idea to give them shorter and slower walks and sometimes opt for alternate forms of exercise such as swimming or playing in a fenced in area.
Pomskies typically get along very well with kids. They are loyal and loving, making excellent playmates and usual confidants. Pomskies are bred to have a friendly temperament and it is usually evident that they are fond of children, often welcoming the attention that they get from a youngster. With the proper training and socialization, these dogs can become well-mannered members of the family who look forward to interacting with children. Pomskies are also smart and eager to learn, and their intelligence makes it easy to teach them important lessons about safety and respect.
A good daily training routine for Pomskies can vary depending on the individual dog's needs. However, it's recommended that owners spend at least 20 to 30 minutes each day engaging in activities that can help reinforce desired behaviors, such as positive reinforcement training. Exercising for an additional 20 to 30 minutes is also beneficial for Pomskies in order to help keep them mentally and physically fit. It is important to remember that the amount of time spent training and exercising your Pomsky may vary depending upon its individual needs and the demands of your lifestyle.
