Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer hybrid breed, created in the USA in the early 2000s. They are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky and are known for their intelligence and loyalty.Pomskies have a life expectancy of around 13 to 15 years and can be active both indoors and outdoors. They typically range in size from 10 to 18 pounds and colors may include grey, white, and cream. They do best in households with plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Socialization from a young age is important to ensure they are accustomed to people and other animals.
Pomskies are low-shedding dogs; however, they do tend to shed a small amount. Their coats are generally thick and fluffy, forming a double, or even triple, layer of fur which keeps them warm in cold weather and helps to reduce their shedding. As with any hybird breed, there are varying levels of non-shedding depending on the individual and its upbringing. Some require regular brushing and grooming to look their best, while others are fairly easy to maintain. Additionally, Pomskies have a greater tendency to be hypoallergenic than other breeds.
Pomskies do not necessarily have special dietary needs, but these hybrids can tend to gain weight easily, so their diet should be monitored carefully. They should be fed high-quality kibble that is specifically formulated for their size and energy level, and should be provided with plenty of fresh water at all times. Treats can be given in moderation, but it is important to remember that anything beyond kibble and occasional treats should account for no more than 10 percent of a Pomsky's diet.
When preparing to welcome a Pomsky into your home, it's important to plan ahead and purchase necessary supplies. Of course, you'll want to be sure to get a collar, leash, and toys to keep your pup entertained. A bed, food and water dishes, a brush, and shampoo should also be on your list. Don't forget about a carrier for transport purposes as well as some treats so that you can reward your Pomsky for good behavior.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of dog that, depending on which parent breed the Pomsky is sired from, can be considered either a small or big dog. Generally speaking, Pomskies are considered to be compact dogs, typically not getting any larger than 20lbs in weight when fully grown. However, some Pomskies may be larger in size, weighing closer to 30lbs, due to the influence of the larger parent breed.
Pomskies certainly have the propensity to enjoy swimming, although it varies from pup to pup. As Pomskies are a mix between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, their love of water and pools can be determined by the predilections of their parents. However, many Pomskies enjoy playing in a pool, lake, or ocean, as the breed generally loves outdoor activities and running around. It also makes a good activity to keep them cool in the hot summer months.
Pomskies have a natural affinity for children and they tend to enjoy playful interactions with them. Through regular training and socialization, these intelligent hybrid dogs bond with children and can make great companions. Generally, Pomskies work well as part of family units, providing love and loyal companionship. However, as with any breed, there may occasionally be exceptions to this rule, and it is important to keep in mind that all interactions between children and a canine companion should be supervised by adults.
Pomskies may not be classified as one of the most intelligent dog breeds, but they do have a lot of potential to be smart. These hybrid dogs are a combination of Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians, and often take on the characteristic traits of both parent breeds. While Huskies have a largely independent nature and Pomeranians can be harder to train, together they often form an enjoyable learning experience that can foster intelligence in a Pomsky. With proper early training, socialization, and patience, Pomskies can learn to become both loyal and clever companions.
