Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a hybrid dog breed that is produced by crossing a Siberian Husky with a Pomeranian. They are a relatively new breed, having appearing around 2009. They are small to medium in size and are a very friendly and active breed, with an incredible amount of energy. Pomskies are intelligent, and are eager to please, making them easy to train. They are also very vocal, and love to "talk." Appearance-wise, they tend to look Husky-like, but may take after their Pomeranian parent as well, or combine aspects from both.
Pomskies are quite rare breeds, but it is possible that some people may have allergic reactions to the Pomsky's fur. Pet allergies are usually triggered by proteins that are present in the fur, saliva, and urine of animals. Whether the proteins found in Pomskies would cause allergic reactions to individuals is difficult to predict. It's best to consult with an allergist to find out if you or a family member may be allergic to the Pomsky. Additionally, it is important to properly groom and clean your Pomsky on a regular basis to minimize any potential allergic reactions.
Pomskies are not omnivores and require a specialized diet to maximize their health and life expectancy. Pomskies are especially sensitive to human food, so items such as onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, avocados, nuts, and chocolate should be avoided. Pomskies also cannot digest raw eggs, unpasteurized milk, raw fish, fatty and unbalanced meat, so these foods should be avoided. Feeding your Pomsky foods containing too much fat can cause them to become obese, so dog food with excessive amounts of fat should also be avoided.
A great way to prepare for your new Pomsky is to get the basics ahead of time. Make sure to have a comfortable bed and crate for them to sleep in, as well as water and food bowls. Additionally, having the right toys depending on their size and energy level is important for providing activities for the pup. Lastly, create a schedule for them with regular feeding times and potty breaks as well as daily exercise and playtime. This will help establish the foundation of their overall routine and make the transition to your home easier.
Pomskies are a small-to-medium size hybrid dog, considered to be about the size of a Cocker Spaniel. On average, an adult Pomsky will usually weigh between 15 and 35 pounds fully grown, so they are not classified as a large breed dog like a German Shepherd or Saint Bernard. However, Pomskies can be quite hardy and active, and some vary in size depending on the Pomsky's parent breeds. In some cases, you may even come across a large adult Pomsky, which can reach over 30 pounds.
Pomskies are active, energetic dogs that need a moderate to high level of exercise. An ideal amount of daily exercise would involve a walk of at least 30 minutes in the morning and/or evening, with time for other activities like fetching and swimming thrown in. If you don't have a large amount of space for your Pomsky to explore, then regular trips to the park can also be beneficial.
Pomskies can be great family dogs as long as they receive consistent training and socialization. Pomskies are friendly and intelligent dogs that thrive on the boundaries and structure that come with good training. They are tireless when it comes to learning and eager to please their owners. Despite their small size, Pomskies are strong-willed and may require a firm but gentle hand when it comes to training. As with any dog, creating a safe, predictable environment for a Pomsky and providing plenty of mental and physical stimulation will ensure they are a well-mannered and loyal companion.
Pomskies are known to be incredibly smart hybrid dogs. They are a mix of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, so they have the intelligence of both breeds, however, they possess a unique intelligence that sets them apart. Pomskies exhibit a high level of intelligence when it comes to problem solving and quickly learning new skills, making them quick learners. They are highly trainable and able to learn basic commands and new tricks in a short amount of time. Pomskies also have a high social intelligence, responding to emotions and situations quickly, making them a great companion.
