Questions & Answers
Pomskies are incredibly interesting and unique dogs because of their hybrid status. Combining elements of the Pomeranian breed and the Siberian Husky breed create a dog that is fiercely loyal, makes a good companion animal, and has attractive features. They tend to be playful, have an outgoing personality, and are typically highly intelligent. Pomeranian and Husky breeds also possess some distinct characteristics that aren’t present in purebred breeds, allowing this mix to have a special temperament all its own.
There is no guarantee that a Pomsky will cause someone to have allergies. Some people may find that they are allergic to a particular breed of dog, or may be sensitive to allergens that a Pomsky may produce, such as dander, saliva, and urine. It is recommended to visit an allergist in order to determine whether or not a Pomsky would be suitable for a person who has allergies. If allergies are present, there are many ways to limit the effects for those who would still like to enjoy a Pomsky.
Feeding your Pomsky the right diet is very important for their health and quality of life. Pomskies are very active and need a balanced diet with high-quality proteins and healthy fats to maintain their energy. A combination of wet and dry food is ideal, as this will provide your pet with all the necessary nutrition. High-quality kibbles contain a variety of minerals, vitamins, fiber and proteins needed for your pet’s growth while wet food is a great source of energy and hydration.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky starts with understanding the commitment that comes with owning a dog. Take the time to research their breed-specific needs and characteristics, as well as how to properly care for them—training, medical care, nutrition, etc. Gaining a better understanding of your pup and their breed will help you learn the best way to respond to their needs. Additionally, providing your pup with mental stimulation through walks, games, and plenty of attention will make them into the healthiest and happiest pup.
Generally speaking, Pomskies come in three sizes—small, medium, and large. Small Pomskies typically are estimated to be between 8 and 15 inches tall at the shoulder, and weigh no more than 15 pounds. Medium Pomskies usually stand between 15 and 20 inches tall at the shoulder, and weigh up to 25 pounds. Finally, large Pomskies can reach up to 22 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh around 30 to 40 pounds. While these are general size ranges, an exact size can vary somewhat depending on the individual Pomsky's heritage.
The general recommendation is that your Pomsky should get at least 30 to 45 minutes of exercise per day. This can be accomplished through walking, playing fetch, or other vigorous activities. If your Pomsky is quite active and in good health, they may benefit from more than 45 minutes a day. An ideal length of time for walking would be around 15 to 20 minutes two to three times a day, or a total of 45 to 60 minutes. If your Pomsky needs to lose some weight or increase muscle mass, you may want to walk a little longer each day.
Pomskies are considered to be excellent family dogs! They are intelligent, loyal, and energetic companions that thrive when they are involved in activities. Pomskies are great with children and form strong bonds with their owners. When properly trained and socialized, they are calm, loving, and make wonderful house pets. They do not do well if left alone for extended periods of time, so it is important to make sure you have enough time to devote to your Pomsky. With their friendly, outgoing nature, they make great watchdogs as well.
Training a Pomsky can be a rewarding experience, but it can also take some time and patience. It is important to remember that every dog and person is different and that what works for one may not always work for another. If you approach training in a consistent and positive manner, the process will be much easier and successful. It is a good idea to start off by teaching the basics like sit, stay, leave it and come and to reward your Pomsky with positive reinforcement.
