Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer dog breed, which means they are a hybrid of two other established breeds. Often times, they are a hybrid of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky breeds, but they can also be a mix of one of those breeds and a Spitz-type breed. The resulting mixed breed usually combo can be quite small, often weighing between 10-20 pounds. They are generally active, energetic, and social dogs, and they tend to have thick coats that can come in a variety of colors. All around, Pomskies can make great family pets.
Pomskies are a designer breed, a combination of a Pomeranian and a Husky, and each individual Pomsky may have different traits. Generally speaking, Pomskies are low-shedding and minimal-shedding, which makes them suitable for most households. We recommend consulting a veterinarian to discuss the best ways to manage their coat and health, as they can be a high-maintenance breed. Regular grooming is key to prevent mats and to keep their fur in good condition.
Pomskies should not be fed any foods or treats that contain chocolate, coffee, wild mushrooms, or alcohol as these can be very toxic to a Pomsky's health. Onions, garlic, and other alliums can also be dangerous for Pomskies, as these can damage their red blood cells and lead to anemia. Raw poultry, fish, and meat can contain parasites, bacteria, and other microbes that can make your Pomsky very sick or even kill them, so these should always be cooked before being fed.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky starts with understanding your pup's unique needs and being willing to put in the effort for your pup's benefit. To ensure your pup is healthy and happy, make sure to provide a nutritious diet, access to plenty of exercise, positive reinforcement for good behavior, regular veterinary visits for preventative care, and an environment rich with mental stimulation. Creating a routine and a safe, comfortable space in your home for your pup to retreat and relax in, is also important. Lastly, make sure to provide your Pomsky with plenty of love and attention.
The size of your Pomsky puppy will depend on their parent breeds and genetic makeup. On average, Pomsky puppies tend to weigh between 20 and 30 pounds as adults. However, Pomskies can range in size from 10 to 50 pounds, and they may be anywhere from 10 to 15 inches tall when grown. All Pomskies inherit their size from their Siberian Husky and Pomeranian parents. It's possible to get a better estimate of your puppy's size at adulthood by looking at their parents' size.
The amount of daily exercise that your Pomsky needs will vary depending on its age and activity level, but a general rule of thumb is to shoot for 30 minutes to an hour per day. While this may sound like a lot, it doesn't have to be done all at once. You can break it up into multiple shorter walks throughout the day, in addition to providing your pup with interactive playtime. If your Pomsky has higher energy levels, a more rigorous workout regimen might be necessary.
Pomskies get along with kids exceptionally well! These vibrant, intelligent hybrid breeds possess a child-friendly temperament that matches their zest for play and exploration. They are an ideal family pet, providing loyal companionship to children and adults alike. Pomskies are an attention-loving breed, so having kids around to provide loving care and interaction will make them the happiest pooch around. As long as proper socialization is done, Pomskies should have no problem living in harmony with humans and other pets.
Pomskies are among the most intelligent canine breeds around, as they are the result of a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. Pomskies combine the intelligence of both the Pomeranian and the Husky, meaning they observe and learn quickly. They are also incredibly agile and have an independent and energetic nature. Therefore, Pomskies are very trainable, are loyal to their owners, and make great family pets. Owners of Pomskies report that these dogs learn basic commands and tricks very easily, and are often quite adept at solving simple puzzles.
