Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. This vibrant and energetic breed usually weighs from 8-25 lbs and enjoys running and playing outdoors. They can be amazingly loyal and affectionate companions and do well with obedience training. Pomskies can adapt to a variety of different living environments and need regular exercise to stay healthy. In addition to daily exercise, they need frequent grooming and brushing to keep their coat healthy and in good condition. When properly socialized and trained, Pomskies can get along well with other pets and children.
Pomskies are not considered to be hypoallergenic, as they shed moderately and have a tendency to cause allergic reactions in some people. However, this varies from individual to individual. Generally, while Pomskies may not be deemed hypoallergenic, they typically have a low-shedding coat, making them a good choice for people with allergies. Regular brushing and grooming are necessary to reduce the amount of shedding to a minimum and household cleaning and vacuuming should be a regular process if you own a Pomsky.
Pomskies should not be fed foods that are high in fat and calories, as these could lead to rapid weight gain. Additionally, Pomskies should never be given bones, rawhide, processed meats, large chunks of uncooked vegetables and fruits, avocado, garlic, onions, grapes, and raisins as they could be choking hazards or cause digestive upset. Chocolate and any food containing unhealthy preservatives or artificial sweeteners should also be avoided.
Pomsky dogs have some special requirements that owners should take into consideration. Health-wise, they require regular visits to the vet, good nutrition, regular brushing and grooming, and plenty of exercise and playtime. They have thick fur coats, so they can be prone to overheating during the summer months and may require extra care and ventilation. As they're a hybrid breed, they do tend to suffer from genetic health issues, so it's important for owners to be aware of those and have a plan in place to deal with any potential issues.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed between a Siberian Husky and Pomeranian, and their size varies greatly depending on which dog is more dominant in their lineage. Generally, Pomskies can reach a height of around 13 to 15 inches and can weigh anywhere between 15-30 pounds. As they are mixed breeds, there can be a bit of variation in the size of each individual dog, and it’s not uncommon to find specimens that are either larger or smaller than an average Pomsky.
Yes, Pomskies are active dogs with very high energy levels. They require lots of physical and mental stimulation throughout the day to avoid developing destructive behaviors. This means that they need ample exercise and walks every day, as well as mental challenges in the form of toys and puzzles. They also thrive on playing and socializing with people, so it's important to provide plenty of interaction with your pup. Pomskies have been known to be good running companions, so they're perfect for owners looking for that kind of exercise.
Pomskies can be wonderfully cuddly companions and great family pets, depending on the individual pup's traits. However, given the hybrid nature of the breed, it can be difficult to predict its size and temperament, which is why it's important a potential first-time owner researches Pomskies carefully. Before making a commitment to owning a Pomsky, it is important to consider the resources available for training and care, and to have realistic expectations for each pup.
Training your Pomsky should focus on teaching basic obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, Come, and Heel, as well as preventing destructive behavior. The key to a successful training program is consistency, and you should start as soon as possible by setting boundaries for your Pomsky. Don't wait for them to do something wrong, instead show them what's expected of them. Training sessions should be short, fun, and rewarding. Believe it or not positive reinforcement is key, so be sure to give your Pomsky praise and treats when they do something right.
