Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique and lovable crossbreed of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They're known to be more independent and curious than the parent breeds. Pomskies tend to be incredibly loyal, loving, and sociable companions that make great family dogs. They have a cheerful personality and can adapt well to different living environments. Their coat comes in many different colors, but most often it is a combination of white and black. Pomskies have large wolf-like ears and round eyes and often possess a unique coloration of the two breeds.
Managing allergies with Pomskies can be accomplished with careful monitoring and maintenance. It is important to keep an eye out for any potential allergic triggers when caring for a Pomsky. This could include materials that a Pomsky may come into contact with, such as food and bedding, but also items in the home that the Pomsky may be exposed to, such as dust, dander, and mites. Regular grooming can also help reduce allergic reactions. Brushing and bathing your pup regularly to remove loose hair and dander from their coat can help reduce allergens in the air.
Pomskies have an incredible variety of food they can eat. Depending on their age, size, and nutritional needs, they can eat dry kibble, wet food, raw food, and even homemade diets. Nutritionally, they need food that is high in fat and proteins, balanced with carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. Giving them a variety of different types of food ensures they receive all the minerals and vitamins they need.
Preparing for your new Pomsky is an exciting process! First, make sure you have the essentials like food and water bowls, a collar and leash, a bed, and some toys. Additionally, consider the space in your home the new pet will occupy; is it a safe environment (no hazardous items, cords, etc.) and has it been pet-proofed? If you plan on crate-training, make sure you purchase one that your pup is comfortable in.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes ranging from toy size to extra-large. Depending on the size of the parent breeds, Pomskies can range in weight anywhere from 7 to 40 pounds, with height between 10-15 inches. Toy-sized Pomskies are generally considered to be the smallest of the bunch, while extra-large can be as tall as 18 inches. Typically, Pomskies tend to be more petite than many of the larger-breed dogs.
It is typically recommended that owners spend at least 30 minutes a day walking their Pomsky. However, this really depends on the individual dog. Some Pomskies are very energetic and may need more exercise. It is best to start exercising Pomskies daily with at least 30 minutes of walking at least four days a week, and adjust the amount of exercise as needed for individual dogs. You will know when your Pomsky needs more walking when it is no longer content with the 30-minute walk and needs more activity during the day.
Pomskies are a very friendly breed of dogs, and they generally do get along well with kids. They love to play and enjoy attention, making them a great fit for families with children who like to play with their furry best friend. Pomskies prefer to be around people, so when your kids give them love and attention they will show them lots of appreciation – it's a win-win situation! They can be quite energetic, so it's best to take them on walks, runs, and other activities with the family so they can get their daily exercise and help them stay healthy.
Training your Pomsky is essential for building and maintaining a healthy relationship with them. The amount of time you spend training depends on a few factors such as the age and temperament of your Pomsky, as well as the level of difficulty of the training. Generally speaking, your Pomsky should receive between 20-30 minutes of dedicated training each day. For puppies, you may need to train for a little longer, around 45-60 minutes, split into shorter sessions. As your Pomsky grows more comfortable with the training session, you can reduce the time spent training.
