Questions & Answers
Pomskies are considered a crossbreed or hybrid dog. They are a mixture of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian that have been cross-bred to combine the best traits of both breeds. They are sometimes referred to as a designer dog, and they have special physical and personality traits. Pomskies can vary in size, color, and personality, but they usually look like a Husky and miniature Husky, with often thick coats of fur. No two Pomskies are alike, and they are a unique and loving breed of dog.
Pomskies are a crossbreed between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, so their propensity to cause allergies in humans is largely dependent upon the individual's particular sensitivities. In general, Pomskies do not produce a significant amount of dander or shed terribly compared to other breeds, as their thick, double-coat keeps most of the loose hair close to the skin. However, some people may be allergic to these breeds' saliva or sweat, and since Pomskies are generally energetic and playful, contact may occur.
Pomskies should never be fed foods that are toxic to dogs, such as grapes, raisins, chocolate, processed meats, or cooked bones. Foods high in fat can also be harmful, as can foods containing xylitol, an artificial sweetener. Rawhide chews and other treats sold in pet stores should also be avoided, as these often contain hazardous chemicals. Boiled chicken, ground beef, and fish are amongst the best proteins for Pomskies, and should be cooked without oil or butter.
Preparing your home for your new Pomsky can be an exciting and rewarding process. Some key steps to take include securing your home by finding and fixing any structural or actual hazards that may be present, establishing physical and sensory boundaries for your pup to have a safe space in which to learn and grow, and making sure to have all the necessary supplies prepped and in place such as food, treats, toys, bedding, and grooming products.
Pomskies are unique, medium-sized dogs that can be anywhere between 10-15 inches tall and can weigh between 12-30 pounds. This hybrid breed is a result of combining a Siberian Husky with a Pomeranian, though it is impossible to predict exactly how they will turn out, as their physical characteristics can vary significantly. Generally, they tend to stay on the lower end of the size range, though there have been some puppies that have been generated that have grown bigger.
It is recommended that you walk your Pomsky for at least 30 minutes each day. The amount of exercise a Pomsky needs depends on its age and energy level. Puppies may require more exercise than other Pomskies due to their high energy level. If your Pomsky is younger than six months, two 30-minute sessions of exercise per day is preferable. You may also need to include agility courses or activities such as fetch into your daily activities. Having an interactive toy or fetch toy may help to keep your Pomsky engaged in playtime.
Pomskies are known to be loyal and loving family dogs, and are generally great with children. They have an affectionate personality and like to cuddle, making them well-suited for those seeking a companion dog. As a hybrid breed, Pomskies also have a lot of energy and smarts, so it is important that owners keep them mentally and physically stimulated. With proper training and care, a Pomskie can be a great addition to any family and can provide years of love and companionship.
Pomskies are considered intelligent dogs due to their hybrid nature, being bred from two of the most popular and smartest dog breeds, the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian. Their highly active minds keep them interested in learning new things, encouraging their owners to provide continual training and mental stimulation to help them reach their full potential. As with any breed, their level of intelligence can vary from dog to dog, requiring the right owner to help them hone in on their smarts.
