Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an intriguing hybrid breed that is part Pomeranian and part Siberian Husky. This combination of two loyal and intelligent breeds yields a canine that is both bright and personable. Pomskies are exceptionally loving and enjoy spending time with their owners, often getting along with all members of the family. Additionally, they often have a vague resemblance to both breeds with a thick, fluffy coat that comes in multiple colors, therefore making them quite the unique, eye catching breed. However, the most interesting thing about Pomskies is their independent and feisty personalities.
Managing allergies with Pomskies is best done by ensuring a low pollen environment. This means removing as much of the allergy-causing elements from the home as possible, such as high-pollen plants, rugs, carpets, fabrics, stuffed animals, and any other materials that retain dust and mildew. Additionally, keeping any outdoor allergens away from your Pomsky requires you to bathe them regularly, use a rob for days with high pollen count, and vacuum often.
Pomskies are omnivorous, and require a carefully balanced diet to remain healthy and active. It is recommended that their diet consists of a premium dry canine kibble that is formulated for small breeds, supplemented with cooked animal proteins (like fish and chicken) and healthy vegetables (like carrots and green beans). They should also have access to fresh, clean water at all times, preferably filtered or bottled. Fruits, grains, and dairy can also be a part of their diet, but be sure not to overdo it.
Before welcoming your new Pomsky into your home, it's important to prepare your living space. Remove hazardous items like household chemicals, dangerous objects, and items that your Pomsky could chew on or eat. Prepare an exercise area in your yard and create a comfortable sleeping space inside make sure it has a soft bed and a cozy blanket. Additionally, think about purchasing some exciting toys for your pup that they can use to chew, play, dig, and even hide. Finally, determine the food, treats, and any supplements you might be giving your pup.
Pomskies typically reach an average height of 12-15 inches from the shoulder, and their weight range is usually 10-20 pounds when fully grown. Variations in size can occur depending on which of Pomsky's two parents (the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian) is more dominant. Generally, however, Pomskies tend to hover around the mid-size range and are considered to be a medium-sized breed. Because of their size, they do not require as much exercise as larger breeds and can be a great companion for those living in apartments or small spaces.
Pomskies, which are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, definitely enjoy swimming! Generally speaking, these sociable dogs love playing in the water or going for leisurely swims, and being sporting dogs, they have a lot of energy that they enjoy burning off. However, you'll want to keep an eye on them, as not all Pomskies are natural swimmers, and depending on their individual energy levels, some may tire themselves out more quickly than others.
Pomskies typically have a gentle and affectionate nature, making them a great choice to be around children. They are particularly suited to family environments and tend to get along with other people, especially kids. Pomskies make excellent playmates, as they love to interact, go for walks, and especially love to cuddle and be by their owners' side. In addition, Pomskies also tend to be quite intelligent which can help them understand where they are and how to interact and play with kids in a responsible way.
Pomskies require different amounts of exercise depending on their individual age, breed, and health profile. Generally, an adult Pomsky should have 30-60 minutes of exercise each day. Puppies require more, around an hour or more depending on their energy levels and needs. If you have an active adult Pomsky, an hour or more of daily activity can help keep them healthier and more content.
