Questions & Answers
Pomskies are small, energetic designer breed dogs that are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They have an adorable teddy bear-like appearance, with long, silky fur and a wedge-shaped head. These active little dogs need plenty of exercise, especially if they live in smaller spaces like apartments. They can also be quite vocal and have a tendency to bark a lot. On the other hand, they tend to be very friendly and affectionate with both family members and strangers alike.
Pomskies are a relatively new hybrid breed, and as with most mixed dog breeds, there isn't any definitive answer as to their level of hypoallergenic qualities. That said, since Pomskies are partly made up of Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians, both of which are lower-shedding breeds, you can expect a relatively low-shedding coat on your Pomsky.
Pomskies, like all dogs, have specialized dietary needs and should not be given just any type of food. There are several items that should be avoided when feeding a Pomskie, such as too much fat, sugar, and table scraps. Too much fat can cause health issues for the dog, such as obesity and digestive issues. High sugar diets can also increase a Pomskie's risk of developing diabetes. Table scraps can be unhealthy since this food is usually high in fat, sugar, and salt and can also contain unbalanced ingredients.
Preparing your home for a new Pomsky can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be! First, you should ensure that the space that your new companion will be staying in is safe by puppy-proofing it as much as possible. This includes clearing away potentially dangerous objects, ensuring any cords are out of reach, and blocking any gaps that they might be able to squeeze through. Additionally, you should invest in appropriate items for your Pomsky like a comfortable, safe bed, chew toys, and food and water dishes.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes, depending on the size of their parents. The size of the pup is typically determined by the size of the adult dog, and generally can range from about 8 to 15 inches in height and between 10 and 25 pounds in weight. Their weight is usually proportionate to their height; however, additional weight gain from a diet higher in fat and calories is possible. Most breeders attempt to breed for the smallest medium size, as this is the best size for agility training and an all-around ideal size for families.
Many Pomskies love swimming! It can be a great way for these intelligent and active dogs to stay in shape and have fun all at the same time. While some Pomskies may be hesitant to go into the water, those who do usually have a great time. Swimming is especially beneficial for dogs with short fur, as it can help them regulate their body temperature more efficiently. Because Pomskies are crosses between purebred Pomeranians and Huskies, their reactions to water can vary widely.
Pomskies are wonderfully affectionate and intelligent dogs, making them great family pets. They are quite attentive and loyal to their people, making them loving companions and devoted watchdogs. Being devoted, gentle and sociable, Pomskies are great with children. They also tend to get along fine with other pets, making them a great choice for households with multiple animals. With their low-to-moderate activity levels, they also adjust well to a variety of home environments, from apartment to backyard.
Pomskies are incredibly intelligent dogs, and their potential for learning and comprehension is pretty amazing. They often surprise owners with the speed at which they can learn commands and tricks. As a hybrid breed, Pomskies sometimes have the benefit of inheriting traits from both parent breeds, making them incredibly smart. Although they can be somewhat stubborn and independent at times, their ability to learn quickly with positive reinforcement and consistency makes them easy to train. Pomskies are generally very social and friendly with people, so they're ideal for families looking for a loving, well-mannered pet.
