Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a cross breed, or hybrid, of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. The goal of the crossbreeding is to mix the a husky’s size and the Pomeranian’s coloring and coat, creating a medium-sized dog with a beautiful coat and personality. A full-grown Pomsky generally ranges from 12 to 17 inches in height, and their weight can range from 10 to 30 pounds when full grown. Coloring variations of Pomskies range greatly, with shades ranging from white to black to multi-colored coats.
Pomskies are known for their beautiful and luxurious coats. They typically have a double coat made up of a short, dense undercoat and a longer, coarser top coat. Depending on their parentage, a Pomsky may have a thick husky coat, a curly Pomeranian coat, or something in between! The color of this breed's coat can range from white, black, brown, grey, or a combination of those colors. The undercoat is usually a light gray or white, and the top coat is typically thicker and darker.
Pomskies, like all breeds of dogs, have their own dietary requirements. In general, you should avoid feeding them dairy, raw or undercooked meat, processed sugars, artificial sweeteners, chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and macadamia nuts. Additionally, you should limit their consumption of fatty table scraps. Dogs can be sensitive to certain foods, so it's best to give your Pomsky a simple mix of dry and wet food. When transitioning to a different diet, always introduce a small amount and observe your pup's reaction before adding any additional ingredients.
Although Pomskies are generally considered to be robust and hardy dogs overall, they do have a few special requirements. They are quite active dogs, so they need regular daily exercise to stay in good physical condition. Unlike some dog breeds, they also require regular grooming and clipping every 8-12 weeks to maintain their beautiful, thick coat. Furthermore, they are highly intelligent dogs which means they require mental stimulation and lots of positive, reward-based training in order to keep them occupied and help them stay sociable and well-behaved.
Pomskies can range in size depending on the size of the parent breeds used in the cross. Generally speaking, they are considered a small to medium-sized dog and will reach an average height of 10 to 15 inches and an average weight of between 10 and 25 pounds. Some examples may be smaller or larger, but this is the norm for an adult Pomsky. Despite their smaller size, they tend to have a lot of energy.
Absolutely! Pomskies are a hybrid mix of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, resulting in a combination of a low-medium activity level. This means your Pomsky has the strength and stamina necessary for a jogging routine. Just make sure you're taking the necessary safety precautions to ensure your pup is protected from the elements. Before heading out for a run, familiarize yourself with the temperature, humidity, and wind levels to ensure that your Pomsky won't overheat, become dehydrated, or be impacted by any other external conditions.
Pomskies can usually coexist peacefully with other animals in the home if they're properly socialized and introduced to one another. Generally, Pomskies are friendly, family-oriented, and enjoy playing with toys and other creatures. It's important to keep in mind that, like any other dog breed, socializing a Pomsky should begin at an early age so they can learn to trust and accept other animals.
Training your Pomsky can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both you and your pup. The key to having success with your training is to maintain consistency and use a fair but firm approach. Start by teaching basic commands such as 'sit', 'stay', 'come', and 'down', using positive reinforcement and rewards. Give each command clearly and consistently and reward your puppy with a treat when it obeys. Additionally, socialize your pup early and often to help reduce any potential anxiety or aggression.
