Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a unique and relatively new designer breed of hybrid dog. It is created by crossing a Siberian Husky with a Pomeranian. Pomskies range in size from being quite small (10-25lbs) to larger (25-35lbs), with a typical height of 10-15 inches. They usually have the body of a Pomeranian, with the coloring and coat of a Siberian Husky, and they tend to have extremely vocal personalities. Pomskies usually have outgoing temperaments and lots of energy, so they require a lot of stimulation and exercise.
The Pomsky breed has a unique coat that stands out from other breeds of dogs. Their coat is usually medium length and is usually a combination of colors, such as white, gray, black, and cream. They have an impressive, thick undercoat that may have a plush, soft feel to it. The outer coat of the Pomsky is usually slightly wavy, although it can be straight, as well as more coarse and longer around the neck and chest.
Pomskies, like any other breed of dog, should generally not be fed food that is high in starch or sugar, such as bread, pasta, popcorn, and cookies. Avoid providing your Pomsky with table scraps as these may contain too much fat or salt for your pet's health. You should also not feed your pet raw food as this can cause digestive issues, or food that contains artificial sweeteners as these can be toxic. Additionally, certain human foods, like onions, garlic, chocolate and grapes, are toxic to all dogs and therefore should not be given to a Pomsky.
If you're looking to get a Pomsky, there are a number of essential items you should purchase beforehand. To ensure your pup has a healthy and happy home, it's important to have all the necessary supplies for them. At the minimum, you should obtain a crate and bed, food and water dishes, a collar and leash, and toys for them to play with. Additionally, you may want to purchase a grooming brush, nail trimmers, puppy shampoo, and treats.
Pomskies vary in size depending on their parents' breeds but typically get between 10 and 15 inches tall, weighing between 15 to 35 pounds when fully grown. Generally, female Pomskies are slightly smaller than males. It is important to note that Pomskies can be either toy-sized or full size, depending on their breeders. Toy-sized Pomskies are typically around 8-10 pounds and 10-12 inches tall, whereas full-sized Pomskies are usually 15-20 pounds and anywhere from 14-16 inches tall.
The amount of daily walking required for a Pomsky will depend on its age, overall health, and activity level. In general, a 10-15 minute walk up to twice a day is good to keep them in good shape and provide them with the exercise they need. This combined with plenty of playtime in your backyard or even inside games such as fetch is essential for their development and will help to maintain a healthy body and mind.
Pomskies make great family dogs and are an ideal choice for households with kids. Not only are they extremely loyal and affectionate, but they are also incredibly patient and gentle, characteristics which make them especially suitable for children. Pomskies enjoy playing with kids and provide tons of entertainment, making them an excellent choice for an active family. Moreover, their intelligence and ability to learn across multiple commands make it possible to train them to follow family rules and understand boundaries when necessary.
Training a Pomsky can be a rewarding experience, but it takes patience, consistency, and dedication. While they are relatively easy to train, each Pomsky is unique, so it's important to be mindful of their individual needs and temperament. Start by teaching basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and drop it. Be sure to reinforce positive behaviors with treats, toys, or verbal praise. If your Pomsky starts to become unruly, it's important to remain consistent with discipline and corrections.
