Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a hybrid dog that is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. It is a relatively new designer dog breed and is characterized by its small to medium size and its attractive fox-like face and thick double coat. This breed can also have striking blue eyes, which gives them a very unique look. Pomskies are generally intelligent, active, and loyal dogs that require daily exercise and mental stimulation.
Pomskies are not hypoallergenic. While they can have a low-shedding coat should they inherit such from either the Pomeranian or the Siberian Husky parent, they can still cause allergic reactions. Hypoallergenic dogs are those that produce the least amount of dander from their coat, but unfortunately, no dog is completely hypoallergenic. As Pomskies have a hybrid heritage, it is impossible to guarantee whether they will have an allergen-producing coat.
Pomskies should not be fed a diet that is high in fat or that contains a lot of table scraps as this can adversely affect their health. In addition, Pomskies should not be given any kind of food that contains high amounts of sugar, such as chocolate and candy. It is also important to avoid products that are unsafe for dogs, such as rawhide bones or specific foods in the onions, garlic, and macadamia nut family. Finally, any food which has expired should not be fed to your Pomskies.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky requires patience and effort, but it can be incredibly rewarding. Firstly, it is essential that you provide your pet with consistent training, appropriate exercise, and plenty of love and attention. Additionally, it is a good idea to stay up to date with the nutritional needs of your Pomsky and to be familiar with any health issues or concerns. As a puppy parent, you should also make sure to provide your Pomsky with plenty of stimulation, whether it be through interactive play or providing access to plenty of mental and physical stimulation.
Pomskies are unique designer dogs, bred from a Siberian Husky and Pomeranian. They vary in size, usually ranging anywhere from 10-20 pounds. Generally, the larger the Pomsky, the more it will resemble a Husky, while the smaller the Pomsky, the more it will take after the Pomeranian. Size is dependent on the ratio of the two parent breeds found in the litter, as well as environmental factors. Breeders strive to produce litters of puppies that vary in size, from small to medium to large.
Pomskies have energetic personalities and enjoy exercise, although this can vary among individuals. This breed combines the intelligence and athletic qualities of Siberian Huskies with the agility and playfulness of Pomeranians and, as a result, needs plenty of exercise to remain mentally and physically healthy. It's important to provide your Pomksy with at least an hour of exercise each day to keep them in top condition. Exercise could involve a walk, jog, game of fetch, or introducing new tricks.
It is highly likely that Pomskies will get along well with other pets, as they are essentially Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians two breeds with a known penchant for socializing with other animals. While of course, individual dogs may have different temperaments, as a whole they are generally friendly and affectionate. This means that they will likely accept any other animal in the household with grace and enthusiasm. Given ample socialization, it is not uncommon for Pomskies to form lifelong friendships with other furry companions.
Training your Pomsky can be a rewarding experience for both you and your pup. It takes patience and consistency to help your Pomsky learn the behaviors you'd like her to exhibit. Start by keeping your training sessions short and positive. Positive reinforcement, such as treats or verbal praise, will help keep learning fun. Teach your Pomsky basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', and 'come', as well as good manners like not jumping on people and not begging for food. If possible, enroll your Pomsky in obedience classes to help reinforce her learning.
