Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a relatively new designer breed of dog. They were created by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. Pomskies are generally small in size, with petite bodies and thick, fluffy fur coats. Because the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky have slightly different temperaments, Pomskies can be quite variable in their personalities. They tend to be intelligent, active, and loyal. While these dogs are typically friendly and affectionate with their owners, they can be wary with strangers.
Pomskies have a low-shedding coat, but not to the point where shedding is eliminated. Brushing your Pomsky is important and should be done several times a week to keep the coat free from tangles and mats, and shedding to a minimum. It's possible that the Pomsky will still shed, but the amount of shedding they'll do is much less than other breeds of dogs, and they don't leave hair around the household the way certain other breeds do. Keeping up with your Pomsky's grooming routine is the key to minimizing shedding.
Pomskies don't necessarily have special dietary needs however, they do require a well-balanced diet made up of various proteins and carbohydrates in order to stay healthy. Remember, like any other dog, the quality and amount of food they eat is important. Pomskies may need more calories than other breeds and usually need at least 2 meals a day. Consult your veterinarian to come up with an appropriate diet and meal plan based on your specific Pomsky's size and activity level. Additionally, always make sure to provide enough fresh water for your Pomsky to drink.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky requires commitment, patience, and compassion. It’s important to provide a safe and secure home where your pup can thrive. Show your Pomsky love and affection by providing plenty of playtime and cuddles. Make sure your pup is comfortable in his or her environment and has sound boundaries so they can trust and respect you. Creating a consistent routine for feeding, exercising, and disciplining your pup will help them learn quickly and develop good habits. Additionally it's important to provide them with adequate mental and physical stimulation.
Your Pomsky puppy's eventual size will depend on the size and conformation of its parents. On average, adult Pomskies weigh between 10-30 pounds, sometimes more or less, and measure anywhere from 10-15 inches tall. As far as height and weight, the puppy will initially be much smaller than its adult size and will gain in both until it reaches its full growth. It is important to monitor your puppy's health and provide proper nutrition and exercise to help it grow to its full potential.
Generally speaking, Pomskies are quite active, making them an ideal breed for running. Taking your Pomsky running can be a great way to provide the exercise and mental stimulation they need to stay healthy and happy. However, before taking your Pomsky running, it is important to consult with your veterinarian to ensure your pet is of an appropriate age and health for running and other types of physical activity. Additionally, be sure to always take your Pomsky on a leash and to bring plenty of water when out running.
Pomskies are generally excellent companions for children. They are small-medium in size, have an affectionate and playful personality, and thrive on human interaction. They love to be around people and do not do well when left alone too often. Because of their easy-going, friendly temperaments, Pomskies get along very well with people of all ages, including kids. They are loyal, trustworthy and quick to learn, making them ideal pets for families with children. They are intelligent, active and enjoy spending time playing and interacting with kids.
Training a Pomsky can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, but it will take some effort and commitment. Depending on the age of the Pomsky when you bring it home, it is likely they will require a significant amount of teaching and socialization to reach a level of obedience. As with any canine companion, discipline and consistency are key to having a well-behaved pup. As Pomskies can be very stubborn, owners should recognize the process may take a bit longer than other breeds of dogs, but with practice and patience, this breed can be trained with relative ease.
