Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are considered one of the most popular breeds today! Fun facts about them include that they are super friendly, incredibly agile, and they make great watchdogs. Pomskies are also known for their intelligence; they learn commands and tricks quite easily and will do anything to get your attention. They love cuddles and snuggles and playing with their toys. Pomskies have thick double coats of fur which varies in colour from sable, chocolate, and black and white.
Pomskies, or “double-coated” dogs, do shed, but not as much as some other breeds of dogs. They have a double layer of fur that grows in different lengths, which helps to reduce shedding levels. The outer coat is usually thick and longer than the inner coat, resulting in less hair coming off of the skin and less build-up on the floors. The main technique for reducing the amount of shedding is to keep the double coat trimmed and well groomed.
Pomskies are usually a mix of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, so when it comes to their dietary needs, it can be a little tricky. Generally, since they're a small breed, they need a good quality of food that is specially formulated for small dogs, with a high protein content, as this will help keep their energy levels up. Lower-end brands may provide less of the key vitamins and minerals needed to keep them healthy, so it's best to opt for something higher quality if you can.
To become the best puppy parent for your Pomsky, it's important to start with adequate research and understanding of the breed. Familiarize yourself with general breed traits, exercise requirements and grooming needs. Ensure you can devote enough time to be an attentive puppy parent as Pomskies need plenty of love, time, and activity. Create a safe and stimulating environment in your home for your puppy. Proper socialization is key to helping your Pomsky form healthy relationships with other people and animals. Spend quality time training your Pomsky with positive reinforcement, rewards and treats.
Pomskies, as they are typically known, are usually an indication of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky hybrid mix. These dogs can typically measure anywhere from 10 to 15 inches tall with a weight ranging from 10 to 30 pounds. However, some larger Pomskies might measure up to 18 inches and weigh as much as 35 pounds. Generally, they tend to have a thick, fluffy coat, which requires regular grooming and trimming to keep their warm winter coat healthy.
Pomskies need a fair amount of exercise in order to stay happy and healthy. On average, they should get at least one hour a day of exercise, which can include jogging, walking, running and playing games. We recommend that Pomskies have at least two 20-minute walks per day, as well as have the opportunity to engage in interactive activities such as playing with balls, frisbees, flyball, agility training, and fetch. If daily walks are not possible, dog parks and doggy day care are an excellent outlet for active Pomskies.
Pomskies can make great family dogs when trained and socialized properly. These dogs are generally loyal and loving, so they often form close bonds with their owners. They also have a moderate to high activity level, making them great if you and your family want to be active outdoors. They usually get along well with other household pets, but can be territorial around strangers. Pomskies enjoy being part of a family and can thrive in a family environment. As long as they are kept active and get plenty of mental and physical stimulation, they can be a wonderful addition to any family.
Training a Pomsky can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. Though Pomskies are known to be strongly intelligent, the process of training one can be very time consuming and require a lot of patience. Having a consistent and proactive approach to training your Pomsky is important for seeing positive results, meaning your pup is more likely to understand and learn commands quicker. The best way of instilling good behaviours is to reward your pup when they do something you're happy with, and to remain calm and positive while training.
