Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a relatively new hybrid breed, created by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. This breed is technically classified as a medium-sized dog, but they can range in size depending on which parent breed makes up a greater percentage of their genetic makeup. Pomskies typically weigh between 15 to 30 pounds, but also can range anywhere between 9 to 40 pounds as they mature. They often inherit the Husky's standard double-layered coat which is typically thick and soft, combined with the Pomeranian's fluffy fur.
Pomskies could cause allergies, but it really depends on the individual. Everyone's level of sensitivity and the nature of their allergies are unique. Generally speaking, Pomskies are considered to be hypoallergenic since they do not have thick fur or a heavy undercoat like some other breeds. But, they do shed somewhat more than some other hypoallergenic breeds due to their heavy and thick coats. It is recommended to consult with an allergist to ascertain whether or not a particular breed of dog would be a good fit for someone with allergies.
Pomskies are unique canines, and they need tailored nutrition to keep them healthy and happy. Generally, they should be fed a high-quality diet made up of lots of protein, healthy fats, and digestible carbohydrates. They should be fed two meals a day as puppies and transitioned to one meal a day. An age-appropriate amount of kibble should be their main source of nutrition, but you can also give them a tasty mix of fresh, frozen, or freeze-dried high-quality proteins, vegetables, and fruits, as well as eggs and plain, unsalted yogurt.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can seem daunting but taking a few simple steps can ensure that you and your pup have the best start possible. First, create a safe area for your new dog to live and get comfortable. Stock up on basic supplies like food, water bowls, and a place to sleep. Make sure to pick food and snacks that are specific to your Pomsky's breed and age range. Get familiar with grooming basics like regularly brushing your pup’s fur to prevent matting, and cleaning the ears or eyes as needed.
Pomskies are not generally considered to be small dogs; they are actually a hybrid breed created from the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. These two breeds can come in a variety of sizes ranging from 10 to 15 pounds, so the size of a Pomsky can vary depending on the parent breeds used to create it. Generally, Pomskies tend to be on the small side, but don't quite fit into the same size category as traditional small breeds such as the Chihuahua or the Toy Poodle.
It's recommended that owners walk their Pomskies for at least 30 minutes per day. This amount of time will ensure that your pup is getting plenty of exercise and physical activities which is beneficial for both their mental and physical health. At least 15 minutes should be spent in an area where your pup can sniff and explore. This will help them stay mentally stimulated and help reduce stress. Active play such as tug-of-war, tag, and hide-and-seek can also be incorporated into their walking routine.
Pomskies can be wonderful companions for kids. They are known to be loyal, intelligent, and full of energy. With their curiosity, they are likely to investigate and play with anything or anyone they come into contact with. To ensure your Pomsky fits in well with your family, make sure that you provide a safe and secure environment with plenty of room to explore. Consistent training and socialization with children, other pets, and strangers will also help your pup become at ease with their surroundings.
The amount of minutes per day that you should dedicate to Pomskies' training will depend on your Pomskies' individual needs. The most important factor is age. Puppies shouldn’t be trained for overly long amounts of time right away as they can become tired quickly and easily lose focus. Instead of intensive hour-long training sessions, consider breaking training into smaller chunks and spreading it out throughout the day. As long as your puppy's age and physical activity don’t limit them, they should receive between 30 minutes and one hour training each day.
