Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a very unique hybrid canine, a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. There are some fun facts about these unique dogs that might surprise you. Their coat color can vary from light to dark, depending on the parents, and they often have one blue eye and one brown eye! They also have a longer lifespan than other dogs, up to 14 years. Pomskies are known for having clam, friendly personalities and will make a great companion; they also bond quickly with their owners.
Pomskies can be a great pet for people with allergies, as long as they keep up with regular grooming and follow other important steps to ensure good hygiene. This breed is generally considered to be hypoallergenic, meaning they produce less dander than other breeds. Still, it is possible that people with allergies may experience symptoms when in close contact with a Pomsky, as no breed can be guaranteed to be 100% hypoallergenic.
Pomskies should not be fed foods that contain ingredients such as onions, garlic, raisins, and grapes as these can be toxic to them and can cause serious health problems. Also, they should not be given too many fatty treats as these can lead to obesity and health problems associated with it. Pomskies are dogs with very delicate digestive systems so it's best to feed them only specialized pet foods and treats that are specifically designed for their breed and size. Lastly, it's important to provide them with access to plenty of fresh water and avoid giving them any people food!
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, it's important to make sure that your house is ready! Establish a comfortable yet consistent routine for your puppy. Have all necessary supplies, such as lots of age-appropriate safe toys, a bed, a crate with a bed, food dish and water dish, food and treats. Be sure to make sure all electrical cords are tucked away, and that anything that may be hazardous to your pup is picked up off the floor. Create safe boundaries in the house (e.g. certain rooms or areas are off-limits).
Pomskies are mixed dog breeds developed by crossing a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They typically have the Pomeranian's stature but don't reach the same size as both of their purebred parents so they are not typically classified as a large dog like Schnauzers, Golden Retrievers, and Newfoundlands. When considering the American Kennel Club size standards for dogs, they would fall in the small breed category.
Pomskies are an active breed of dog, as their Pomeranian and Husky heritage suggests. They have medium-high energy levels and require a good amount of exercise and mental stimulation hedding up to 90 minutues or more each day. A Pomsky will welcome an active lifestyle and be playful and social, thriving in environments with opportunities for exploring, interacting with people and other animals and engaging in activities. They can easily become bored and start to exhibit behavior problems, such as anxiousness or destructive chewing, if their needs are not met.
Pomskies are an excellent family pet, and they tend to get along particularly well with kids. Their loyal and affectionate natures make them wonderful companions for children, while their intelligence and obedience make them easy to train. Pomskies are also very playful and energetic, which children usually appreciate. They usually want to be around their family and understand when they need to cool it down around young ones. With proper socializing and training, these dogs can learn to be accepting of any person they come across.
All breeds of dogs require daily exercise, but Pomskies in particular can benefit from training. The exact amount of training needed per day will differ based on the individual dog's age, size, and rate of development. Generally speaking, Pomskies require a minimum of thirty minutes to an hour of training each day. Ideally, playtime and active training, such as relaxed obedience exercises and structured walks, should be broken down into two or three separate, thirty-minute blocks. This kind of consistent schedule will ensure that your pup stays happy and healthy, while also helping to improve their overall behavior.
