Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid designer dog breed created by mixing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are classified as a toy breed because of their small size that typically ranges from six to twenty pounds and seven to twelve inches in height as an adult. Pomskies are bright, active and loving dogs that make great companions. They are natural watchdogs, friendly with other people they know, but can be a bit suspicious of strangers. Although friendly and loyal, they are not generally recommended for families with young children because of their size.
Pomskies have a unique double coat made up of both the soft fur of the Pomeranian and the thicker, coarse fur of the Siberian Husky. The long guard hairs of their outer coat protect their softer undercoat. The coat color of Pomskies is usually snowy white or a blend of both of their parents’ colors, such as shades of gray, black, silver, and white. You may also find Pomskies with darker almond-shaped eyes, giving them an especially gorgeous look.
Pomskies do have some special dietary needs that are important to be aware of. Though relative newcomers to the world of canines, these hybrid dogs can end up with any combination of dietary needs of their two founding breeds, the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky. Keep in mind that the size of the dog should also be taken into account, with larger Pomskies needing to be fed differently than smaller ones.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, you should ensure your home is prepared. First and foremost, ensure you have all necessary supplies like a leash, clothing, food and water dishes, toys, a bed, washing supplies, character-appropriate snacks, etc. You should also secure any items that can be easily accessed or destroyed by your pet. Make sure your home is "Pomsky-proof" by blocking off any areas they should not be able to access, covering any holes or openings, and keeping your windows locked and curtains drawn when you are out.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, created by crossing a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, and can range from small to medium-sized dogs. As such, the size of an individual Pomsky can vary depending on the size of its parents. Generally, a Pomsky will usually weigh between 20 and 30lbs and will reach heights of up to 15 inches. Some Pomskies may be smaller, while others may be slightly larger. With proper and regular grooming, their coats can come in a variety of colors and be either harshly spiked or long and soft.
Pomskies are definitely an active breed! As a mix between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, these dogs have the perfect combination of intelligence, energy, and outgoing nature that makes them excellent companions to stay active. Being a hybrid breed, Pomskies can inherit their athletic traits from both their parents easily making them some of the most active and energetic hybrid dogs around. With that being said, it is essential for Pomskies to have plenty of daily exercise in order to stay physically fit as well as mentally stimulated.
Pomskies, being a combination of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, are known for being alert, agile, and friendly. Also, they are generally good-natured and kind with their family, including children. However, if you are considering getting a Pomsky for a family pet, it is important to socialize and train them early on, as any pet they are given proper training and socialization from an early age will be better equipped to interact positively with children.
Training a Pomsky is not an undertaking that can be considered easy. It requires a fair amount of work, dedication, and effort, especially if you are teaching them more complex commands or skills. Generally speaking, positive reinforcement and rewards are the most effective methods, as giving them a tasty treat in conjunction with verbal praise can help encourage them to learn in an efficient manner. However, keeping their sessions short and consistent is also important. Training requires patience and consistency from both the Pomsky and their owner, but can be a fun and beneficial experience.
