Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of dog created by breeding a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. They are an active, intelligent breed that require daily exercise and mental stimulation. It is important to be aware that this breed is a mix of two strong-willed and sometimes stubborn breeds, so they should be obedience trained and correctly socialized from an early age. Like all dogs, they need regular grooming and should visit a veterinarian for routine checkups and vaccinations. You should also be aware that Pomskies are prone to certain health conditions that can be costly.
The Pomsky's coat is a stunning combination of features, reflecting both the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky breeding lines. It is typically soft and thick, usually carrying the familiar markings of both parent breeds. The coat has a double-layer, with a thick protective outer layer and a very soft and fuzzy underlayer for insulation. It may also feature two coats in one, with a longer coat of fur on the shoulders and chest, and a shorter coat on the back and sides.
Pomskies should not be fed people food, as it is not nutritionally balanced and can lead to obesity and other health issues. Also, foods such as onions, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and chocolate are toxic to dogs in general, and should not be given to Pomskies. Though dogs may enjoy these as treats, it is not recommended that they be regularly given to Pomskies.
Before getting a Pomsky, it is important to make sure that you have all of the essential supplies necessary to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable home for your new pet. Here is a list of some of the key items to have on hand: a leash, collar, high quality food, premium treats and toys, beds and/or mats, food and water bowls, a brush, pet shampoo, dental care items, a carrier or crate, ID tags, a pet first aid kit, puppy pad or indoor restroom, and a pet containment system, such as a fence or playpen.
Pomskies can range in size depending on their parent breeds. Typically, they are considered a medium to small sized dog, weighing around 10-30 pounds when full-grown. However, as hybrid breeds, the physical characteristics of their parents can influence their overall size, meaning that some Pomskies may be considered larger than usual. Generally, if a Pomsky grows to be over 30 pounds, it will likely be considered a large-sized dog. Ultimately, it all depends on how the individual Pomsky develops.
Generally speaking, it is recommended to walk your Pomsky at least 30 minutes daily. Depending on your Pomsky's age, size, and activity level, you may opt to divide this time into several walks throughout the day. Additionally, having short but regular playtime sessions can also help to keep your Pomsky active. A mix of exercise, playtime and positive reinforcement will help to keep your Pomsky in tip-top shape and provide opportunities for social interaction. Aim for at least 30 minutes of outdoor exercise every day and try to vary the type and length of the activities that you do.
Pomskies can generally get along with other pets in the house, such as cats and other small pets. This is because Pomskies are usually friendly dogs that socialize well with family members and their furry friends. However, it is important to introduce all the animals slowly to give each pet time to get used to the other pet’s scent and presence. It is also a good idea to supervise their interactions in the beginning to ensure harmony in the home.
Pomskies are incredibly smart dogs; they are an intelligent and loyal breed with an eagerness to please their owners. They have a strong desire to learn, and many owners report that their Pomskies picked up commands and tasks quickly with just a few repetitions. They are also very loving and affectionate dogs and easily become attached to their owners. As puppies, they may require a bit more attention and obedience guidance than other breeds, but with consistent reinforcement, they can be some of the most well-behaved companions around.
