Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. Also known as a Huskeranian, this new designer dog began appearing in North America in 2012. Pomskies are small in size, usually weighing between 10 to 30 pounds and standing 10 to 15 inches tall. They have a big, fluffy coat that is typically shades of white, grey, black, and tan. Despite their small size, Pomskies are quite energetic. They have a strong herding instinct and can bark at any time, making them great watchdogs.
Pomskies are considered hypoallergenic, which means they are non-shedding. This breed of dogs were created by crossing a purebred Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. The combination of both the Pomeranian and the Husky genes results in a much lower shedding rate. However, their coats may require frequent brushing to prevent any mats and tangles from forming. So, overall, Pomskies do not shed significantly and are considered to be a better choice for people who are sensitive to dander or fur.
Pomskies require the nutrition of both Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies, so their diet needs to consist of high-quality food formulations that are specially designed for small breed dogs. Premium wet food specifically designed for small breeds as a nutritious and balanced meal is ideal for Pomskies, as they have high energy requirements and their diets need to reflect this. Furthermore, it's important to include a variety of nourishing foods such as fresh meat, vegetables, grains and healthy fats to keep their immune system strong.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, make sure to take a few important steps to prepare your home. Start by puppy-proofing your home to ensure that anything breakable or chewed-on is out of your Pomsky's reach, and provide them with an area and a bed that is ease accessible to them. Consider making a schedule for feeding, potty training, and exercise which will help your Pomsky adjust to their new environment.

Although small in size, Pomskies have big personalities and are known to be quite active. Most owners report that their Pomskies become more affectionate and even-tempered as they mature.
It is recommended that Pomsky owners provide their pup with at least 30 minutes to 60 minutes of walking each day. This helps maintain the pup's physical health by providing him with consistent exercise as well as providing mental stimulation and plenty of opportunity to bond with his owner. Depending on the climate and weather conditions, the frequency and duration of walks may be scaled back slightly as needed, however a routine should still be established and maintained to ensure a healthy quality of life for the pup.

In addition, these breeds tend to be very receptive to children and familiar settings, and can prove to be gentle and gentle playmates for children.
It is important to remember that Pomskies require an adequate amount of exercise each day. A good guideline is to provide 30-45 minutes of physical activity daily which can include walking, playing fetch or any other favorite game of your Pomsky. Additionally, a mental challenge should be presented 15 to 20 minutes a day which can include teaching basic tricks, interactive puzzles, or hide and seek type games. It is important to provide the proper amounts of exercise and mental stimulation to your Pomsky to keep him or her healthy, happy, and well-behaved.
