Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a designer breed of dog that is a result of crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. This hybrid breed is known for being exceptionally friendly, highly trainable, and loyal. It is a relatively new breed, so many of the characteristics are still up for debate. Generally, a Pomsky is relatively small in size (maximum of around 20 pounds), and they usually have a coat that is thick and medium in length.
Pomskies typically do not cause allergies. The mix of a Pomeranian and Husky makes for a very low-shedding breed, compared to many other breeds, which is an important factor for those suffering from allergies. When considering any pet, it’s important to understand that no pet is 100% allergen-free and that allergen levels vary from individual to individual, so keeping your environment clean and free of allergens should always be a priority.
All dogs have unique dietary needs, including Pomskies. The best way to ensure your Pomsky is getting the proper nutrition for their age, size, and lifestyle is to speak to your vet. Depending on the Pomsky's age, they may benefit from puppy food, which is formulated for growth and development; adult food, which is formulated to meet the energy needs of adult dogs; or senior food, which is tailored to the special nutritional needs of older dogs.
Pomskies, which are a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, have certain unique care requirements. First, these dogs need a great deal of exercise, as neither a Pomeranian nor a Husky are small, sedentary breeds. For this reason, a Pomsky should get two to three long walks each day, though it's important to avoid over-exercising them as puppies. Additionally, they may develop Small Dog Syndrome, so early and frequent socialization is highly recommended.
Pomskies average height is around 12-14 inches at the shoulder, but they can be slightly taller. In terms of weight, most Pomskies range from 10-30 pounds. Some may even grow to be larger than that but typically their size will not exceed 30 pounds. Additionally, their size will depend on the size of their Pomeranian and Siberian Husky parents for example, if both parents are bigger, you can expect your Pomsky to also be larger.
Pomskies, which are a hybrid breed of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, are generally known to enjoy swimming. Both of these breeds have a water-loving personality, so it follows that most Pomskies are likely to take to swimming, too. If properly trained, they can become strong swimmers and enjoy soaking up the water on hot summer days as much as any other dog.
Pomskies, as a breed, have a friendly and loving temperament and generally very sociable. This makes them excellent companions for children and their families! Generally speaking, a Pomsky is an affectionate and playful pet that enjoys being around people--especially kids. With proper socialization and training, a Pomsky can be a great addition to any family. Not only are they fun-loving and curious, but they're also loyal and obedient.
Training your Pomsky requires dedication and consistency. Like all dogs, Pomskies respond well to positive reinforcement and consistent rewards. Start by teaching basic commands like sit, stay, come and go, as well as reward your pup each time they complete a task. You'll also want to ensure you and your pup have scheduled playtime to help establish your bond as well as strengthen obedience. Additionally, be sure to regularly practice basic commands with your pup in different environments to ensure your pet understands the command is expected no matter the location.
