Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an incredibly unique hybrid breed of dog. A combination of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, they offer a blend of traits from both breeds, like the friendly playfulness of the Pomeranian, and the larger size and thick coat of the Husky. They have beautiful blue eyes, and even the rare chocolate-colored coats. They make excellent family pets as they’re both intelligent and loving. Additionally, they’re very watchful of their surroundings and make excellent guard dogs.
The Pomsky coat is quite unique, varying in color and texture from one dog to the next. Colors range from black, grey, and white to red, orange, brown and more. Generally, the coat is denser and thicker than other breeds' coats, which helps provide some insulation. There's also the characteristic darker face mask which adds a touch of charm to the breed. The texture of the coat can range from silky and soft to curly and corkscrew-like.
As a mix of both Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, nutrition for a Pomsky is essential. To keep your pup happy and healthy, provide a high-grade, balanced diet that is specifically designed for small breeds like the Pomsky. It's important to make sure that the product you choose is chock-full of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and Omega-3 fatty acids, as these are all essential for your dog's well-being. Avoid filling their bowl with snacks and table scraps unless they are approved for canine consumption.
To prepare your home for a new Pomsky, start by creating a comfortable space. Consider where you'd like the dog's bed or crate, as well as how much space they will have to move around. Add a few toys, some chew sticks, and any other items they may need. Make sure play areas, like yards and other spaces where they play are properly secured with fencing. Make sure all hazards inside the home, like electrical cords, candles, and fragile objects are removed and securely store away in order to keep your Pomsky safe.
Pomsky puppies can range in size from small to medium-sized. When full-grown, the size of your Pomsky will depend on whether your pet's parents were a Siberian Husky or a Pomeranian. On average, a Pomsky will reach full-size between 8 and 13 months old and may be anywhere from 10 to 24 pounds in weight. To get the most accurate estimate on the size of your Pomsky puppy, you should consult with a certified breed specialist or veterinarian.
Pomskies can certainly enjoy swimming! This breed of dog has an affinity for water, similar to other spitz breeds. Their thick double coat and well-built physique make them strong swimmers. These playful pups can benefit from regular exercise and hydrotherapy, so a dip in the water is a great way to get the heart rate up. Introduce your Pomksy to swimming slowly and consider using an appropriate life vest for added safety.
Pomskies typically get along very well with children, making them an ideal pet for families. Generally, Pomskies are quite friendly and make great companions. Whether playing fetch, cuddling up on the couch, or running around the yard, Pomskies are a loving and loyal breed. They are intelligent and tend to bond quickly with their family. When interacting with children, Pomskies are gentle and kind and can provide hours of entertainment and loving companionship.
The amount of minutes you need to train your Pomsky depends on their individual needs. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to dedicate about 10-15 minutes per day to training your Pomsky. This means that over the course of a week, you should be spending approximately 70-105 minutes on training and interacting with your pup. If your Pomsky has specific behavioral issues, it may be beneficial to dedicate additional time to working on these. Consistency is key when training a Pomsky, so a regular routine is necessary to ensure progress.
