Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a crossbreed and not a specific purebred class of dog. They are usually created by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. The result of this mix can vary in terms of size, appearance, and temperament depending on the parent breeds involved. Pomskies are generally very social, intelligent, and good with children. They do best with plenty of mental and physical stimulation, as they can be quite energetic and require plenty of exercise.
Pomskies are hybrids of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky breed, and typically do not cause allergies. The best way to determine whether you may be allergic to a Pomsky is to visit a breeder and meet the puppies in person. Any pet you bring home should be checked by a vet for general health and allergies, so it is recommended that you speak to a veterinarian to ensure a good fit for your family.
Pomskies should not be fed certain foods that can be harmful to their health. This includes grapes, raisins, onions and garlic, as these can be toxic. Avocado and macadamia nuts should also be avoided, as they're bad for their digestion. Excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and fat can lead to obesity, so it's best to avoid giving these to your Pomsky in their daily diet. You should also never give Pomskies chocolate, alcohol, bones, rawhide, or any processed foods.
Taking the time to prepare for your new Pomsky is an important step in creating a happy, healthy home for your pup. Before welcoming your pup, start stocking up on supplies such as a leash, collar, food and water dishes, chew toys, and potty mats. You'll also want to designate a spot in your home for the pup's bed and create routines for potty training, feeding, and walking.
Pomskies come in all sizes, from the teeny-tiny Teacup variety right up to the larger Toy variety. Teacups typically weigh around 6-7 pounds when full grown, whereas Toy-size Pomskies can reach weights of between 14-25 pounds. It's important to note that Pomskies have a great deal of variability when it comes to size and this is because of the fact that Pomskies are an inter-breed hybrid and therefore their size can vary greatly between puppies (or even within the same litter!).
Pomskies absolutely love swimming! Many owners report that Pomskies are eager to jump right in the water and the only challenge is getting them to come back out. Their natural fox-like characteristics make them graceful and capable swimmers, able to easily keep up with their human family in the pool and at the lake. Pomskies' thick double coats help them to stay warm even in the coldest waters, making them the perfect aquatic companions.
Pomskies are great for first-time owners because they possess all the loving, loyal, and smart qualities of a companion animal. They are relatively low-maintenance and don't require extensive exercise compared to some other breeds. With their hybrid active nature, they are great at getting along with children and other pets, and won't mind being left at home alone, but still provide plenty of companionship. They can also be quite entertaining and have the intelligence to learn a few simple tricks. All in all, first-time owners can enjoy the benefits of Pomskies without feeling overwhelmed.
Each individual Pomsky will have its own training needs depending on its age, temperament and breed, but as a general rule, most adult Pomskies will need around 20-30 minutes of training a day. Puppies will need more and should be trained for at least 45 minutes a day; ideally, they should have three short training sessions with regular and consistent rewards. Training them consistently and in a controlled environment is essential for great results, so make sure to find a comfortable and quiet place where you can spend time each day developing your dog's skills.
