Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid or designer breed of dog. They are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are known for being friendly, independent, and intelligent. As far as size, Pomskies tend to be on the small side, usually between 10 and 30 pounds, and have a lifespan of between 12 and 15 years. The coat is usually thick, soft, and fluffy and can range in colors from white, cream, black, and brown.
Pomskies are not necessarily hypoallergenic and their hypoallergenic status can vary from dog to dog. Since this breed is a cross between a Siberian Husky and Pomeranian, it is best to look at the individual. If you have allergies, they may be adversely affected by any of the breed's shedding and dander production. However, if you are looking for a hypoallergenic dog, you may want to consider other hypoallergenic breeds.
Pomskies should not be fed human food as this can lead to nutritional deficiencies, allergies, and digestive issues. Additionally, as Pomskies have a small muzzle, they can easily choke on human food such as pizza, steak, and potatoes. It is important to avoid certain foods, such as onions, chocolate, and grapes, as these can be toxic to Pomskies. Furthermore, raw hides, bones, and other indigestible items should be avoided as the sharp edges can cause internal injuries.
Before introducing a new Pomsky into your home, there are a few steps you can take to ensure that you are providing an ideal environment for your pet. Make sure you have the appropriate supplies, such as food, bedding, toys, a leash, a collar, and a pet carrier. Research local pet laws and obtain the necessary tags for your Pomsky. Establish a safe area where they can explore, but make sure items around the area that can be hazardous are securely out of reach.
Pomsky puppies will generally reach their full maturity size by the age of 1 year. An adult Pomsky typically grows to 11–20 inches in height and 15–30 pounds in weight. However, there can be variations in size depending on the breed of the parent dogs. Generally speaking, a Pomsky's size is a combination between the parent's size. As you can imagine, accurately predicting the final size of a Pomsky can be difficult.
Pomskies are known for being adventurous and many of them absolutely love to swim! They have a thick waterproof coat that is designed to keep them warm and dry when they're out swimming. Generally, Pomskies are quite comfortable in the water and enjoy spending time playing in it. They are full of energy and many keepers have found that swimming is an excellent way to give their canine companion some much-needed exercise. Depending on the individual dog, some may even take to swimming lessons although this isn't a requirement to help them learn how to swim.
Pomskies can typically get along with kids just fine, but like any other breed, there can be some exceptions. It can depend on individual temperament and training, as well as how a child interacts with the pet. Socialization with humans and other animals should begin early and often. It is important to supervise children when they are around the Pomsky to ensure everyone is playing nice. Taking the time to properly train your Pomsky will also pay off in the long run, making it more likely that they will successfully get along with children.
Pomskies are considered to be intelligent dogs. Pomskies are a combination of two very different breeds, the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian, and this crossbreed has inherited various traits from both of its parents. Generally, Pomskies are enthusiastic learners who can be trained to follow certain commands such as come, sit, and stay, among others. They also have an affinity for problem-solving and can often be seen trying to figure out puzzles or games.
