Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid between two distinct breeds the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. These spunky, loyal dogs are often referred to as a designer breed and tend to have a fluffy outer coat combined with a thicker undercoat. The size and weight of a Pomskies can vary greatly, typically anywhere between 5-30 lbs or even more, depending on the breed of the parent dogs used for the cross. They are often noted for having a very sweet personality and a spunky attitude, making them incredible family pets.
While Pomskies are not known to be particularly high-shedding or allergy-causing dogs, it is impossible to answer whether or not you will have an allergic reaction to them without knowing your individual situation and sensitivities. Allergies can be caused by a variety of things, including the dander, saliva and urine of animals and the proteins within them. It is best to consult with an allergist to determine if you are allergic to specific types of animals and which ones may cause an allergic reaction before getting a Pomsky.
Feeding your Pomsky a balanced diet is essential to keeping them healthy and happy. High-quality, age-appropriate dog food is the best option and portions should be tailored to your individual pet's size and activity level. Look out for foods that contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and other nutrients important for maintaining a healthy weight. Monitoring your Pomsky’s weight and cravings can reveal when more or fewer calories are needed. Additionally, occasional treats can add some extra joy to their day but should be given in moderation.
First and foremost, make sure your home is ready for your new Pomsky. Prepare for your pup by puppy proofing your home. This could include securing items like plants and electrical cords, covering open walls and surfaces, getting rid of anything that may pose as a choking hazard, or overly enticing that may cause your pup to jump and get hurt, and providing boundaries for them to explore safely. Make sure you have designated areas for play, sleeping, eating and going to the bathroom.
Pomskies, which are a crossbreed of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, come in a variety of sizes that reflect the different sizes of their parent breeds. Generally, the smallest variety are hybrid Teacup Pomskies, which range from 6 to 9 pounds. The toy Pomskies typically come in two sizes: Miniature Pomskies, which are approximately 10 to 20 pounds, and Standard Pomskies, which are about 20 to 30 pounds. The largest Pomskies are Giant Pomskies, which range from 30 to 45 pounds.
It is important to make sure you allow your Pomsky to get the proper amount of exercise everyday. Depending on the age and fitness level of your Pomsky, walking them anywhere between 20-60 minutes a day is typically recommended. However, if your Pomsky is a puppy, it's best to limit walks to a maximum of 20 minutes to avoid overworking their developing bones and joints. It's also important to allow your Pomsky to have active playtime throughout the day, such as running in a secure area, chasing a ball or playing with other pets.
Pomskies typically make great family pets and get along very well with kids. Their outgoing personalities and eagerness to please make them great companions for children, and they usually enjoy playing with them. Pomskies also tend to have a calmer temperament than other dogs, so they tend to be better suited for households with children. They often love being around kids and enjoy attention from them, so they make great playmates and can be patient and gentle with them. With proper training and socialization, a Pomsky can be an excellent choice for families with children.
Pomskies are considered to be smart dogs because of their ability to learn quickly. This active breed of canine is known for its high intelligence and alertness, making them easily trainable and eager to please. When given the right environment and training, these pups can excel in learning tricks, obedience, and commands. They are also noted for being loyal, easy-going, and loving companions. Pomskies are highly intelligent dogs who want to please, so with the right guidance, they can become obedient and well-behaved companions.
