Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, and they are part of the Spitz family. They have a very unique look, and they are usually very small dogs, typically ranging from 12 to 20 inches in height. Pomskies have a thick double coat that can be found in a variety of colors, including black and white, brown and white, and mottled red and white. They possess the traits of both parent breeds, and they are very friendly, smart, and active dogs. They are outgoing and playful, and generally make great companions.
Pomskies have a luxurious and fluffy double coat. The outer coat is generally medium to long in length, and is soft and straight, with a dense undercoat. The color of a Pomsky's coat can range from silvery grey, white, and black to the more uncommon red and sable. The coat itself can also carry a range of pattern variations from solid to sable and agouti. Although the double coat does require some maintenance, their beautiful and thick fur means they're incredibly cuddly and soft to the touch.
Generally speaking, Pomskies do not have special dietary needs that differ significantly from other small-breed dogs. They do, however, require a high-quality diet tailored to their size and energy level. Puppies tend to need more frequent meals than older dogs, but they should be served foods that are specifically formulated for a pup's nutritional needs. Foods that are higher in protein and fat and lower in carbohydrates can help support Pomsky's growth and development.
Before welcoming your new Pomsky into your home, it's important to take the necessary steps to ensure your home is properly prepared. Start by dog-proofing your space. Make sure your home is free of small objects that could be a choking hazard to your new pet. To make your new furry family member comfortable in their new home, it's a good idea to provide them with a comfortable bed, food and water bowls, and all the other supplies they will need.
Pomskies are a crossbreed between the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, so characteristics vary. Generally speaking, Pomskies vary in size between 10-30 pounds and 10-15 inches in height. This means that a Pomsky is usually classified as a small-sized dog. However, some Pomskies could end up being closer to the larger end of the scale.
Pomskies vary when it comes to their love of swimming. Some Pomskies are natural swimmers and enjoy the activity immensely, while others are more likely to avoid it. Generally, a well-socialized Pomski that has experienced the water from a young age will grow to have a deep appreciation for it. Yet, even with proper socialization, some Pomskies simply do not have the same affinity for the water that others do, so it's important to make an individual assessment with your particular Pomski.
Pomskies are an excellent breed of dog for families with children. They are a designer breed of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, and they possess the even-tempered confidence of a Siberian mixed with the tender lovability of a Pomeranian. Pomskies are highly trainable, and enjoy being around people and playing games with children. They are also highly intelligent, which makes them well equipped for various games and training, which makes them an excellent canine companion for young kids.
The amount of time you should spend training your Pomskies per day varies depending on their age and stage of training. As a general rule of thumb, though, if your Pomsky is still a puppy, then you should aim for at least 15-20 minutes of training per day to ensure they can start forming good habits. As your pup grows, they can learn more complex tasks, which may require more time and patience.
