Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. While the exact origin of the breed is unknown, it is believed that the first hybrid was produced as early as 2012. This breed is very popular for its loving personality, small size, and fluffy coat. Although they have been bred to be small, Pomskies can still have some Husky traits, including mischievousness and an independent nature.
Pomskies have a unique coat that sets them apart from other hybrid dogs. Their coats are usually long and silky, often featuring a combination of the parent breeds' fur textures. They can come in a variety of colors including black, white, brown, and red. The base of the coat is often thick and double-layered, while the tip is usually curled and bushy. Due to their unique mix fur type, their coats may experience some shedding more regularly. However, they generally have low-shedding coats and are hypoallergenic.
Pomskies should not be fed chocolate, dairy products, or foods containing xylitol, such as some chewing gum or candy as these are very toxic for dogs. Additionally, sticky or sharp foods like rawhide, bones, popcorn, fruit seeds, and large pieces of raw fruits and vegetables can be a choking hazard or damage the pup's delicate digestive system. It is best to feed Pomskies a balanced diet specially formulated for smaller dogs, and to give them plenty of fresh, clean drinking water.
Before you purchase a Pomsky, there are a few essential items you will need to get in order to ensure that your pup is comfortable and happy. First and foremost, you'll want to buy a crate. This will be your pup's personal safe space to retreat to when feeling overwhelmed or anxious. You'll also want to buy food bowls, a collar and a leash, treats and food, and lots of toys. Purchasing grooming supplies such as a brush, nail clippers, and shampoo will also help keep your pup's coat and skin healthy and will make grooming sessions much easier.
Pomskies, the offspring of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, vary in size depending on their parents' sizes. On average, they tend to range from 10 to 15 inches in height and 10 to 25 pounds in weight. However, depending on the parent's individual size, they can reach sizes beyond that, such as an 18 inch tall and 40 pound Pomsky, the largest of the breed. Generally, smaller Pomskies will also live longer, as larger ones have a shorter lifespan due to size-related health issues.
Pomskies are a highly active breed of dog. They are well-known for their high energy levels, making them the perfect companion for active individuals. This hybrid breed is intelligent, eager to please, and loves to be around people. Pomskies are incredibly loyal, so are excellent around children and other pets. These dogs need plenty of physical and mental stimulation each day to stay happy and healthy. This includes daily walks, runs, interactive playtime, and agility activities. If given an outlet for their energy, they make great companions that can accompany their owners on outdoor activities and adventures.
Pomskies can make wonderful companions for children, provided that they are given the right environment and training. Generally, they are not only good with kids, but love spending time with them and engaging in fun, active activities. They are very intelligent and can learn quickly, so they respond well to discipline and training. With plenty of exercise, attention, love and socialization, Pomskies usually become affectionate, protective and loyal members of the family.
Training Pomskies can take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours per day depending on your pup's age, level of obedience and individual needs. The key to successful Pomskies training is consistency you should try to provide your pup with at least 10 minutes of dedicated training activities per day. For young pups, you will need to commit to adding on 5 or 10 minutes of additional activities as they learn, increasing their time as they progress. If you can, add additional activities like playtime and fun learning games throughout the day to get the most out of the training process.
