Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a very unique breed, making them one of the most interesting things around! They are a crossbreed between the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, and are sometimes recognized as a “designer breed”. This fun mix of two breeds creates a combination of the incredible intelligence, alertness, and athleticism of the Husky paired with the outgoing character, loyalty, and playfulness of the Pomeranian. This combination means these dogs are always full of life and energy, and will bring a smile to your face with their unconditional love and joy.
Pomskies are generally considered to be low-shedding dogs, meaning they don't shed as much as other breeds. That doesn't necessarily mean they don't shed at all, as all animals lose some fur on occasion, but they have coats that produce less dander and are thus better for allergy sufferers. While grooming is important for all dogs, it's particularly important for Pomskies who need regular brushing to prevent mats. This breed is suitable for those looking for very low-shedding dog that won't contribute much to allergies in their home.
Pomskies should not be fed raw meat, as this can introduce pathogens of unknow origin into the system. Any type of food consumed should be in a cooked form. Foods that are high in sugar should be avoided. Things such as candy, ice cream, and cakes are not considered good nutrition. They can cause obesity and create health problems. Additionally, foods that have artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, sweeteners, and/or other additives should be avoided. Human foods such as onions, chocolate, and garlic can be toxic to your Pomksy.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky starts with being prepared. Before bringing home your pup, ensure you have the proper supplies, such as a crate, bedding, food and water dishes, toys, and a leash and collar. Make sure you also have the time to dedicate to your Pomsky they need supervision and love. Schedule regular vet check-ups to keep your pup healthy and up to date on vaccines. Work with the vet to determine an appropriate diet and exercise plan. Make sure you pamper your pup as well so they learn that people can be trusted.
Pomskies are a mixed breed created by crossing a purebred Pomeranian with a purebred Siberian Husky. They are a small dog breed, but exactly how big they get depends largely on which parent breed's traits they inherit. Generally, Pomskies do not grow larger than 15 inches tall and, on average, usually don't exceed 20 pounds in weight. However, in some cases, they may have more of the larger Siberian Husky side and reach up to 30 pounds if their owners aren’t careful about controlling their diet and exercise.
Generally speaking, Pomskies are active dogs who need a lot of exercise. They thrive on physical activity and love to stay busy with activities like running, playing, and socializing. They can become easily bored if they are not provided with enough stimulation and do best when given plenty of chances to play and interact with humans. Because they are so active, they require a lot of exercise and interactive play. Consider activities such as walking and running, as well as interactive toys like puzzles and agility courses to keep your little Pomsky busy and entertained.
Generally speaking, Pomskies are known for getting along well with other pets, both big and small. However, it essential that the interaction between both pets is closely monitored for the first couple of days or weeks, to ensure the safety of both animals. It is important to note that the level of socialization between these two will depend upon the upbringing of the Pomsky and its interactions with other animals. It is in the best interests of the pet to have sufficient social training on a regular basis.
Pomskies are well known for their intelligence and quick learning ability. They are a relatively new breed with a diverse heritage, making them one of the most unique hybrid breeds of dog. Not only are they smart, but they are also incredibly loyal and incredibly loving, becoming deeply connected to their families. Their intelligence means they often pick up tasks quickly and are good in obedience training and agility classes. They can also pick up on social cues and are quite aware of their surrounds. Pomskies also love to play and they can be particularly friendly when introduced to new people and animals.
