Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer hybrid breed that are created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. As such, they do not have a breed classification of their own; however, they can be identified by their unique characteristics and distinct features. This breed is usually around 10-15 inches tall, and has a white and/or grey coat with various type of markings, such as spots and splotches. They have dark, almond-shaped eyes that can range in color from icy blue to deep brown, and their faces usually have the signature pull of a husky.
It is possible for a person to experience allergies to any breed of dog, including a Pomsky. While the Pomsky breed tends to shed relatively little, it is not hypoallergenic. As such, if you have a history of allergies related to animals or other triggers, it's best to speak to your doctor and a qualified breeder before considering a Pomsky. It is also recommended to visit a breeder and interact with the puppies so that you can determine the effect that their fur, saliva, and allergen particles may have on you.
Pomskies have dietary requirements that can vary depending on size, age, and activity level. Generally, Pomskies require high-quality food with plenty of nutrients in order to maintain their coats, muscles, and teeth. It is important to feed your Pomsky a balanced diet that is formulated specifically for small-breed dogs. Specific ingredients and nutritional information for each food should be reviewed and discussed with your veterinarian. Pomskies may also require special dietary considerations in the form of treats, supplements, and other specialty items to support their overall health.
Preparing your home for a new Pomsky can be an exciting process! First, make sure that any other pets you might have are up to date on vaccinations, as it's important to take extra precautions when introducing a new pet into the family. If you have other dogs, having them meet on neutral ground is an ideal way to start the process of introducing them. Make sure to puppy-proof your home by removing any hazards that a puppy may be attracted to like cords, small objects, etc.
Pomskies usually grow to be between 10-15 inches and 10-30 pounds, depending on the size of the parent breeds used to create the mix. While these small breed dogs appear to have a lot of energy, they are still considered toy breeds. Many Pomskies display a coat of medium length that requires occasional grooming, and their average life span is twelve to fourteen years. As with any breed, owners should arrange for regular vet checkups and ensure that their dog is receiving the proper nutrition and exercise for their respective life stage.
It really depends on the fitness and energy level of your individual Pomsky. Generally speaking, a leisurely walk around the block twice a day should be adequate for your pup. Nonetheless, if you have an especially active Pomsky, try to aim for about 30 minutes of brisk walking per day. This should provide your pup with enough activity for healthy mental and physical stimulation. Additionally, if your pup is laid back, a shorter 15 minute walk may be just as ample. It's important to pay attention to your pup's energy and excitement level to determine an appropriate walking time for them.
Pomskies are typically excellent with children. They are patient and gentle, so make great family dogs. They are highly social, so make good playmates and companions. As an active breed, they enjoy activities with the whole family. Even though they are strong-willed, they tend to be tolerant and even-tempered in how they interact with kids. With training and guidance, they can learn to follow the same rules and expectations that other members of the family must.
Pomskies are very intelligent dogs, sometimes described as a "smart little clown." They are highly trainable and social, often outperforming other breeds with their quick learning abilities. With some extra training and positive reinforcement, a Pomsky can learn how to do amazing tricks. They are also active and loyal, which is why they need to be constantly stimulated and exercised. Pomskies have the capacity to remember commands and can easily adapt to any new situation. They also make excellent watchdogs since they are always alert and can sense anything out of the ordinary.
