Questions & Answers
Pomskies are incredibly popular designer breeds that were developed by crossing a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They usually weigh between 11 and 30 pounds and can reach up to 19 inches in height. Pomskies have thick coats, mostly of gray and white, and some of the breed have blue eyes. Their coats require regular brushing, and are usually medium to long in length. Another fun fact is that Pomskies tend to be very people-oriented, so they usually make great therapy dogs and lapdogs. Pomskies also tend to be quite active and love to be outdoors.
The Pomsky has a thick and luxurious coat that is designed to be thermoregulatory. The topcoat features a blend of medium length guard hairs that create a "fluffy" look and feel. The undercoat is short and dense giving the breed a waterproof barrier that helps keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The breed can come in a variety of colors such as black, white agouti, sable and piebald and can also range in markings such as striped, brindled, and irish spotting.
Pomskies should not be fed a diet of human food as it can be difficult for them to digest. Human foods such as greasy, processed foods and dairy products can give them an upset stomach. You also want to avoid giving Pomskies foods that are too salty or sweet. Pomskies should also not be fed bones, as they can become splintered and cause damage to their mouths and intestines. Remember to always provide your Pomskies with a high-quality, nutrient-rich dog food that is suitable for their breed and weight.
Preparation is key when welcoming a new Pomsky into your home. Start by researching the breed to ensure that your lifestyle and home are suited for this type of dog. Have supplies ready for your pup before they come home, such as a bed, food and water bowls, toys, and a collar with tags. If you are planning to crate train your pup, create a comforting atmosphere by providing cozy blankets and soft bedding material. Visit the vet after the pup arrives to ensure that all vaccinations are up-to-date.
Pomskies can range in size from small to large depending on the size of their parent breeds. Generally speaking, after hybridization with either a Siberian Husky or an American Eskimo Dog, Pomskies can reach sizes that would qualify them as small breed dogs. Breeding for size has traditionally been a priority in Pomsky breeding which has resulted in some Pomskies being significantly smaller than their Siberian Husky parent. That said, it is not uncommon to encounter some larger-sized Pomskies who are not typically considered small breed dogs.
Walking your Pomsky is an essential part of keeping them healthy and active; however, the amount of time spent walking your pup should depend on the individual. Generally, if the Pomsky is a puppy, they should be walked for at least 20 minutes a day, and if they are an adult, then at least 30 minutes is recommended. However, breed, age, and level of exercise should all be taken into account when deciding how long to walk them for.
Pomskies can make great family dogs, as their playful and good-natured personalities make them an ideal companion for families. They are loyal and affectionate toward their families, so they make great additions to any home. They're also incredibly intelligent, making them easy to train. Pomskies also require a lot of attention, stimulation, and exercise, so they're perfect for families who have the time and energy to spend with them. They thrive on being around people and are usually eager to please, making them great playmates for children.
Pomskies are generally quite intelligent pooches. Their small size belies their sharp minds. They tend to learn quickly and can remember commands with ease. These adaptable dogs have been known to learn tricks and engage in activities that require more advanced problem-solving skills. Pomskies are certainly capable of understanding abstract concepts and picking up on human cues. With lots of love and attention, they thrive in most atmospheres and are sure to bring both entertainment and joy to their owners.
