Here are some fun facts about Poodles: they were originally used as water retrievers in Germany, some can be trained to participate in agility and other sports, they come in a variety of sizes, from Toy to Standard, they can live up to 18 years old, and they are among the most trainable of all breeds. They have a high intelligence level, making them easy to obedience train.
Poodles have a beautiful coat that is silky and dense. It can come in a wide variety of colors including black , white, blue, silver, and brown as well as a mix of these colors. The coat can be clipped in a variety of patterns, including the classic and popular “poodle clip”. The breed is also unique in having coats in various textures from very curly locks to a wavy look depending on the grooming routine. Poodles can also have corded coats which require regular maintenance but the breed is also known for its nonshedding coat.
Poodles are highly intelligent animals, so their diet should be packed with adequate nutrition. Generally, poodles should have their meals based off meat-based proteins such as fish, poultry, or beef. They also require vegetables and fruits such as potatoes, carrots, spinach, and apples for fiber. An ideal diet to ensure a happy and healthy poodle should also include complex carbohydrates which, contribute to a stronger immune system. Whole grain sources such as brown rice and oatmeal are a great source.
Before getting a Poodle, you should buy a few essential items. You should get a collar and leash, preferably one that is adjustable and comfortable for your pup. You should also invest in 3-4 food bowls one for water and two for food. A comfy, supportive bed is also important for a healthy night's sleep. Additionally, a few toys, treats, and grooming materials such as a brush and nail clippers are all essentials. Finally, don't forget a quality food that’s suited to your pup's age and size.
Poodles come in a variety of sizes. Standard Poodles are the largest size and can range anywhere from 15 23 inches in height and between 45 70 pounds in weight. Miniature Poodles are usually 10 15 inches in height, weighing between 10 15 pounds. Toy Poodles are the smallest size and typically measure less than 10 inches in height and weigh under 10 pounds. Poodles need a good amount of daily exercise. Generally, an adult Poodle should get at least an hour of exercise every day, split up into two or three shorter sessions. This could include anything from a brisk walk, a vigorous play session, or even some outdoor agility training. Depending on the age, temperament, and energy levels of an individual dog, some may need more or less exercise. Puppies, for example, need to gradually increase their exercise levels over time in order to avoid sore or injured joints.
