Poodles are well-known for being incredibly intelligent, versatile, and loyal companions. One of the most interesting facts about Poodles is that they are the only breed of dog recognized by the AKC with three different types-Standard, Toy, and Miniature. Poodles are also incredibly versatile and can be trained to join a variety of activities, including search and rescue, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and dock jumping. They have also been known to succeed in the show ring as well as being perfect therapy or service dogs.
Many people mistakenly think that Poodles are non-shedding dogs, but this is actually not the case. Poodles do have a low level of shedding compared to some other breeds, however they are not considered to be hypoallergenic or non-shedding. Poodles will still shed some fur, and require regular grooming and brushing in order to keep shedding to a minimum.
Poodles should not be given chocolate or any kind of candy as it can be toxic to their digestive system. Similarly, gritty or hard food, as well as processed snacks or overly salty foods should be avoided as they can increase the risk of dental problems, the accumulation of toxins, and excessive weight gain. In addition, many human foods, such as onions, chives, garlic, grapes, broccoli, and avocado, can be very dangerous to Poodles, therefore these should be strictly avoided.
Before getting a Poodle, it is essential to purchase needed items, such as a food and water bowl, a grooming brush and shampoo, a bed and possibly crate, food appropriate to your Poodle's breed and age, a leash and collar, a toy, and a waste/poop scoop and bags for cleanup.
