Questions & Answers
Poodles are incredibly interesting and unique creatures! They are known for their intelligence, loyalty, love-of-learning, and sociable nature. In addition, their unique curly or wavy fur stands out amongst all other canine species; they can even learn to do tricks with it. Poodles come in a large variety of sizes, from teacup to giant, and can be groomed for a wide variety of coat lengths, shapes, and colors.
Poodles are considered hypoallergenic because of their low-shedding coat; however, it is important to note that no breed is 100% hypoallergenic. All dogs produce dander, which is the allergen causing sensitivity. A poodle may be an ideal option for someone with allergies because people may be less likely to be allergic to the fur rather than the dander itself. In addition, a regular grooming schedule should be maintained to prevent excess hair growth in order to reduce potential allergies.
Poodles should never be fed anything containing chocolate, onion, garlic, or grapes. These items can make them very sick and can cause poisoning to them if they were to ingest them. Additionally, dogs should never be fed candy, food scraps from the table, human vitamins or supplements, fatty foods such as bacon or processed meats, bread dough, or any other type of sugar and/or sweetener. All of these human food products can be harmful to a dog's health, causing digestive upset, obesity, and even serious medical issues.
Preparing for a new Poodle can be a fun and exciting process. It's important to take the time to research the breed, determine specific needs of the Poodle, purchase appropriate supplies, and consider where the Poodle will live. Start by gathering knowledge about the breed's temperament, activity level, coat care, dietary requirements, etc. Make sure you can provide a safe and comfortable environment and that you can meet their physical and social needs. Purchase necessary supplies like a crate, bedding, collar, toys, harness, etc.
Poodles come in 4 different sizes: Toy, Miniature, Medium, and Standard. Each size varies in height and weight. The Toy Poodle is the smallest and generally weighs between 4 to 6 pounds. The Miniature Poodle typically weighs between 15 to 17 pounds and stands between 10 to 15 inches tall. The Medium Poodle weighs around 40 pounds and can reach heights of 15 to 20 inches. Last but not least, the Standard Poodle is the largest of them all, typically weighing between 40 to 70 pounds and measuring between 15 to 22 inches tall.
Poodles are active, lively dogs that require some sort of daily exercise to keep them healthy and happy. They possess a lively spirit, and it is important for owners to provide their Poodles with the amount of play time and activities they need. They are not overly active and demanding, but they need enough physical and mental stimulation to keep them content. To fulfill their need for activity and understanding, their owners must spend quality time with them. This could include either taking them for a walk or letting them run around the yard.
Poodles can be an excellent choice when looking for a family-friendly pet. With the right training and socialization, Poodles can be wonderful companion animals for kids. Not only do they display high intelligence and are easy to train, but they are also non-shedding, friendly, and loyal. As long as your family in able to provide them with a loving, stable home, Poodles can provide kids with many years of affection and fun-filled companionship. Poodles can also serve as great teaching tools, helping to teach kids responsibility and empathy towards animals.
Training a Poodle is a rewarding experience that requires patience and dedication. The best way to begin is by teaching your pup basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Start slowly and allow your pup to take breaks when needed. Offer plenty of treats, praise and positive reinforcement to reward your pup for good behavior. Additionally, introducing your pup to social settings as early as possible can help ensure a well-mannered and comfortable pup. Obedience classes are another great way to introduce your pup to new people, situations, and learn more commands. Finally, be consistent and patient with your pup.
