Poodles are an iconic breed for their stylish haircuts, but they are also known for their intelligence and loyalty. These pooches are excellent family pets and come in three different sizes—toy, miniature, and standard. Some fun facts about the Poodle breed include that it's thought to be a descendant of the French Barbet breed which were associate with waterfowl hunting. They are considered one of the oldest dog breeds since they have been popular since the 1500s.
Poodles have a unique coat that differs depending on the type. Standard Poodles have a dense, curly coat that's usually clipped into an even all-over length. A Toy Poodle's coat is wiry and dense, usually shaved close to the skin, while a Miniature Poodle's coat is a bit softer. All Poodle coats require regular grooming which consists of brushing, combing, trimming and occasional bathing. Additionally, Poodles may need their coat stripes groomed into special shapes.
