Regardless of which category they fit in, Poodles are considered an intelligent, loyal and alert breed of dog. On the breed standard, they are described as having a proud, dignified appearance and requiring regular brushing and clipping of their extremely thick and curly fur.
Poodles have elegant, single-layer coats that can come in a variety of colors. Their coats tend to be curly and slightly wavy, which helps keep them warm when swimming or playing in the water. They have a soft undercoat and a firmer outer coat to protect them from the elements and help keep dirt and debris away.
