Poodles are a truly unique breed of dog. They are extremely intelligent and affectionate companions, and come in a variety of sizes and colors. One of the most interesting facts about these dogs is that they have a long and interesting history. Not only are they the national dogs of France, but they were initially bred as water retrievers and sport dogs. This rich history makes them great pets for people who love history and the outdoors. Additionally, poodles are renowned for their hypoallergenic coats that make them perfect for anyone with pet allergies.
Poodles are considered low-to-non-shedding dogs, though shedding does occur to some degree. Their loose, curly hair follicles are uniquely designed to trap and hold dead hair, resulting in minimal shedding. In comparison to other breeds, Poodles rarely leave noticeable amounts of fur around the house. Regular coat trimmings are recommended to help keep shedding to a minimum. Although Poodles are not considered hypoallergenic, they are generally known to cause fewer allergies than other breeds.
Poodles should primarily be fed a diet of high-quality dry dog food that is formulated for their size and age. The Miniature Poodle can reach up to 15 inches and weigh anywhere from 15 to 17 pounds. The Medium Poodle, which is also known as the Klein Poodle, stands 15 to 17 inches tall and weighs anywhere between 17 to 24 pounds.
The amount of walking your Poodle needs on a daily basis will vary depending on his age, breed, size, health, and the activities he typically engages in. Generally speaking, Poodles should get 30-60 minutes of exercise each day. This can be spread out throughout the day with several "walks", or longer outings as your schedule allows.
