Questions & Answers
Poodles are a class of dog that are most well-known for their high intelligence, coat, and unique conformity. They are considered a member of the non-sporting group of breeds that are known for their hunting and retrieving abilities, in addition to being social, energetic, and obedient. They come in several sizes which include the Standard, Miniature and Toy varieties. All are cheerful, alert, and highly trainable. The thick curly coat requires regular grooming and needs to be trimmed every few months.
Although reactions to any pet can vary from person to person, Poodles typically are considered hypoallergenic as they do not produce a lot of dander, saliva, or their wool doesn't shed very much. They rarely trigger a reaction or inflammation in individuals with pet allergies. That being said, since there can be an allergic reaction to various proteins that the pet may produce, it is best to consult with a medical professional first to be sure that you are not allergic to the breed or any specific breeds.
Poodles should not be fed anything that contains high levels of fat, or products that could be dangerous or produce an allergic reaction. Chocolates, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and other fruit like persimmons are all toxic to Poodles and should be avoided. Greasy and salty snacks can cause obesity and even digestive problems, so they should be avoided too. It's also best to not feed Poodles bones, especially cooked bones, as they can splinter and cause serious harm.
When it comes to getting a Poodle, there are several essential items that you should consider purchasing in advance. First and foremost, you should have a collar and leash so you can easily take them out for walks. You should also make sure to have a bed for them to sleep in, as well as food and water dishes. Grooming supplies, such as brushes, clippers, and shampoos, are also must-haves in order to keep your Poodle looking and feeling great. Toys will also be essential to keep your pup entertained and out of trouble.
Poodles come in various sizes Toy, Miniature and Standard so it is difficult to definitively answer the question, 'Are Poodles considered big dogs?' If the Standard variety is being referred to, then the answer would be yes, Poodles are considered big dogs, but if Toy or Miniature Poodles are meant, then technically no, they would not be considered big dogs though they are still larger than some breeds.
Poodles are a smart and active breed that require a decent amount of structured exercise to stay fit and healthy. They have plenty of energy and are especially suited to activities such as jogging or brisk walking. Generally, Poodles need 45 minutes to an hour of physical activity each day, broken up into multiple sessions if needed. Swimming and agility exercises are excellent ways to give your Poodle exercise as these engage their minds as well as their bodies. Make sure to incorporate mental stimulation too to keep your Poodle’s mind active and to relieve stress.
Poodles are a popular breed of dog that can make great companions with the proper care and attention. Generally speaking, they tend to be very friendly, and get along quite well with other pets. With that being said, it is important to make sure that your poodle is socialized properly from a young age, so that they are comfortable in the presence of other animals, especially those that they may be sharing a home with.
The amount of time per day that you need to train a Poodle varies depending on the individual pup's needs, activity, and temperament. Generally, a Poodle should receive at least 20-30 minutes of structured exercise each day in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and participate in basic training activities. In addition, one should train and work with their Poodle for 5-10 minutes multiple times a day (ideally 3-4 times) to ensure that the dog is getting enough stimulation and to help them become better behaved and more skilled.
