Poodles are a popular breed of intelligent and friendly dogs that come in several sizes, including Standard, Miniature, and Toy. They have a strong desire to please their owners, however, they require a lot of stimulation and mental exercise to keep them entertained. Poodles have a dense, curly coat which needs to be groomed regularly in order to prevent matting. A good brush at least once a week is recommended, along with professional grooming every six to eight weeks.
The Poodle coat is considered a single-layer coat, consisting of a tightly-curled, texture-rich hair that does not shed. It has an incredibly wide range of color variations, including solid colors such as black, gray, white, brown, apricot, and cream, as well as contrasting patterns such as parti and phantom. There is also a wide range of coat lengths, from the classic poodle clip to a much longer version, called the teddy bear clip.
Poodles are known for being smart and attentive, and as a result, they tend to have fairly specific dietary needs. Generally, a balanced diet for a Poodle consists of a high-quality kibble or dry food, reinforced with occasional raw meat, fresh vegetables and fruits, and supplements as needed. Poodle sizes vary greatly, with Standard Poodles typically reaching heights of 15-24 inches tall at the shoulder. As far as weight goes, Standard Poodles can reach anywhere from 40 to 75 pounds. Miniature Poodles stand roughly 11-15 inches tall and usually weigh anywhere from 10-20 pounds while Toy Poodles reach between 8-10 inches tall and most often weigh five to eight pounds. Regardless of size, all Poodles require plenty of exercise, love, and attention.
