Poodles have a fascinating history! They were initially bred as hunting and retrieving dogs by European aristocrats in the 1500s and were considered the hunting dog for kings. Their intelligence, loyalty and non-shedding coats made them the ideal breed for the sport of retrieval hunting. Poodles are some of the most intelligent dogs in the world and consistently rank among the top ten most popular breeds. They excel at obedience and agility competitions across the globe, and have even been trained to do therapy work and handicap assistance.
Poodles come in three different coat varieties, all of which are curly, dense and wool-like. The standard Poodle has a sturdy, wiry and slightly harsh texture, ranging from solid colors to abstract or parti-colors. The miniature Poodle has a finer, curlier texture with a straight and wiry coat while the Toy Poodle has an extremely curly, dense and fine coat that is carded out daily.

In addition, Poodles should not be fed food high in carbohydrates such as corn, wheat, and barley. These foods are not easily digested and therefore can lead to digestive issues. Additionally, acidic foods such as onions, garlic, leeks, and whole grains must also be avoided. Poodles should also not be given bones, as they can become choking hazards.
