Questions & Answers
Poodles are an incredibly unique and interesting breed of dog. While many people expect their intelligence, they are not aware that they come in a multitude of sizes. They can be tiny Toy Poodles, all the way up to Standard Poodles, which can weigh up to 70 pounds! Another unique feature to these dogs is their coat, which comes in many different colors. There are also two different textures corded for more rustic look, or the popular puffy poof trim style.
Poodles generally have a low shedding coat due to their distinct curly fur. In comparison to other breeds, they tend to have substantially less hair loss. This is because their fur is more densely packed and the hair follicles are more tightly woven than those of most other breeds. It's important to note, however, that all dogs shed, including Poodles. Some Poodles may shed more than others, especially if their hair is not frequently groomed. Keeping up with regular brushing, using a deshedding tool, and scheduling professional grooming can help keep shedding down to a minimum.
Poodles are prone to digestive difficulties, so owners should be mindful of what they feed their canine companion. Owners should avoid giving Poodles human foods such as chocolate or avocado, as well as any foods that are high in sugar, salt, fat, and carbohydrates. Additionally, Poodles should never be given raw or uncooked meat as it can contain bacteria which can cause intestinal upset. It's always best to select meals specifically designed for poodles as they provide the most balanced nutrient profile for the breed's needs.
Poodles do have some special requirements that need to be taken into consideration in order to ensure their well-being. Primarily, Poodles need regular brushing and trimming, as their coat tends to grow quickly and can become matted if not cared for properly. Additionally, Poodles require exercise and stimulation during the day to stay active and healthy. It's also important to provide them with basic obedience training to ensure they are strong and safe while living in a home environment.
Poodles come in three basic size varieties: standard, miniature, and toy. Standard Poodles usually reach heights between 15 and 22 inches tall, and can weigh anywhere from 40 to 70 pounds. Miniature Poodles are usually about 11-14 inches tall (at the shoulder) and typically weigh 10 to 15 pounds. Toy Poodles stand 8-10 inches tall, and generally weigh around 4 to 6 pounds. Poodles should never be obese, as this can be detrimental to their health.
The amount of time you should spend walking your Poodle each day will depend on your pup’s size, age, energy level, and health. Generally, a healthy adult Poodle should get about 30 minutes of exercise per day, broken up into several shorter walks. If your pooch is still growing, they will likely benefit from more exercise such as longer and more frequent walks to help expend energy and ensure proper development. Additionally, oolder Poodles may require shorter and less intense exercise sessions to prevent overexertion.
Poodles are a breed of dog that tend to get along very well with children, given the right environment and training. They are generally considered to be an excellent choice for families with children, as well as for single owners. Highly intelligent, Poodles are also surprisingly patient with children, often more patient than even the most tolerant human. Poodles have a mild temperament and are eager to please, which makes them highly trainable; and when properly socialized, they tend to get along well with other pets and children.
The amount of minutes you need to spend with your Poodle each day will vary depending on the age and energy level of your pet. Generally speaking, an adult Poodle should get at least an hour of exercise each day. This exercise can include a mix of running, swimming, fetching, and other activities. In addition to the physical activity, it is important to also provide them with mental stimulation. This can include obedience and agility training or hiding toys or treats for them to find.
