Shiba Inus are among the smallest of Japanese-bred dogs, and they’re also the most popular. These loyal but independent, fluffy but regal dogs look like a cross between a stuffed animal and a fox. There’s a lot to love about Shiba Inus!
Loyal and Affectionate
The Shiba Inu is a reserved pooch who doesn’t give affection easily to strangers—but is a loyal companion to members of his pack.
Aloof and Independent
The Shiba is an independent dog who tolerates loneliness better than most breeds, yet is always ready for his family to come home from work!
Absolutely Adorable
There’s just something adorable about the Shiba Inu’s fluffy face and almost cartoon-like appearance!
Zen-like Personality
The Shiba Inu walks through life with an air of sophistication and serenity that is unmatched by many other breeds.
Easy Grooming
Although your Shiba Inu will shed twice per year, grooming your pooch is a cinch and shouldn’t take long at all.
Fun for the Whole Family
A well-trained and well-socialized Shiba Inu—like most dogs—makes an outstanding family pet for years to come.

Questions & Answers
Obviously you’re wondering at this stage, just how much a Shiba Inu puppy is. Well breeders charge different prices depending on a number of things. These things include the sex of the Shiba Inu puppy, color of its eyes and coat, breeder experience, and whether or not the puppy has had its shots already. At the end of the day there will be a price you can afford!
If you can’t find any Shiba Inus near you, that isn’t a problem at all. All the breeders and businesses in the Uptown network are used to organizing travel for their beloved pets, so that they can end up in your loving arms. They also can travel and deliver the puppy you choose to you, or you can even pick your new puppy up in person!
We, at Uptown, have a pretty stringent process when it comes to accepting breeders, businesses and companies into our network. Less than a tenth of the applicants are actually taken on to partner up with us. We only give you access to the best breeders, who have the best puppies. Just take a look at our Breeder Pledge!
Uptown Puppies really cares deeply for all the puppies that are looked after by the breeders, businesses and companies that we’re connected to. We know how many scammers are out there exploiting dogs and puppies, hurting them, and taking away from the quality of their lives, to make money off them. Uptown works on integrity and good ethics.
Puppy mills are the most horrid places you could ever imagine possible for sweet and innocent puppies. When puppies are born, they need fresh air, room to roam, good nutrition, and most of all, a lot of love. Puppy mills generally don’t even take care of their puppies' health. Uptown chooses not to work with puppy mills at all!

Shiba Inu literally translates to “brushwood dog” in Japanese. They’re a really popular breed in the world. A long time ago, they were bred specifically for hunting small and medium-sized animals like rabbits and boars. Shiba Inus are exceptionally loyal to their human families, and are fiercely independent too, with a confident nature.
Shiba Inus live 12 to 16 years. They weigh between 17 and 23 pounds, and their height is 1 foot 1 inch to 1 foot 5 inches at the shoulder. They’re medium-sized which makes them perfectly suited to small homes, as well as apartments, but they do need exercise and regular walks. They’re regal dogs with a sophisticated attitude, with so much love to give!
Shiba Inus are highly independent, making them difficult dogs to train. Training must occur when they are as young as possible. Shiba Inus are recommended for pet owners with a lot of experience with dogs, otherwise their Shiba Inus will run their households. Therefore, they’re not recommended for first time dog owners.
Shiba Inus are not high maintenance dogs. When they’re not shedding, their coats only need to be brushed twice a month. When spring and fall come around, they need to be groomed/brushed weekly or twice a week ideally. Shiba Inus naturally keep clean and professional grooming only needs to take place twice a year.
