Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog, a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. These dogs are known for their outgoing and friendly personalities they are often very eager to please their owners. Aussiedoodles are usually very intelligent and are often easy to train. They are friendly and energetic, making them an ideal family pet. Aussiedoodles typically have a soft and luxurious coat that can be wavy or curly, which may require occasional maintenance. These dogs have a moderate energy level and are good for outdoor activities.
Aussiedoodles do possess traits of both the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle breeds; this hybrid is generally considered to be non-shedding. As with any dog breed, though, some light occasional shedding can occur, depending on the individual dog. This non-shedding benefit is a great plus to having an Aussiedoodle as a pet, since it means mess and maintenance is kept at a minimum. However, Aussiedoodle owners should be aware that regular brushing and grooming is still required to keep the dog's coat looking its best.
Aussiedoodles have very sensitive digestive systems, so it's important to feed them the right things. Avoid feeding them human food, like chocolate, popcorn, candy, grapes, and onions, which can be toxic to them. Also, rawhide should be avoided, as it can be a choking hazard or cause gastrointestinal distress. Many Aussiedoodles are also sensitive to wheat and corn products, so check the product labels before purchasing food for your dog. Too much fat in their diet can also have adverse effects, so try to stick with low-fat alternatives.
Preparing for a new Aussiedoodle can be a daunting task but with the right strategy, you can alleviate any fears or confusion you may have. First, research the breed to gain valuable insight into their diet, behavior, and exercise requirements. Training and socializing should be started at an early age to ensure the dog is comfortable in different environments and able to follow basic commands. Furthermore, you should acquire all necessary supplies such as a bed, toys, food, a leash, collar, and microchip.
Aussiedoodles come in a variety of different sizes, ranging from the smallest Toy size all the way up to the largest Standard size. Depending on the specific parents used in the breeding process, Aussiedoodle puppies may be anywhere from 14 inches to 24 inches in height, with weights of 10 to 70 pounds. A Toy Aussiedoodle will appear more "lapdog" like, while a Standard Aussiedoodle has a more substantial build. The coat lengths also vary from the shorter-haired Minis to the longer-haired Standards.
Aussiedoodles are an active breed, so they require a good deal of exercise. Not only do they need as much physical activity to remain healthy and fit, but they need it to expend excess energy and stay mentally balanced as well. Daily walks of at least 30 minutes help meet a variety of these needs, and additional activities like agility training, tempting, or playing fetch can help keep your Aussiedoodle happy and stimulated. In addition, providing opportunities for them to explore and experience new sights, sounds, and smells will help them get excitement and satisfaction out of life.
Aussiedoodles typically do great with other pets like cats and small animals. Generally, they adjust easily to different settings and, with proper training and socialization, assimilate well with other animals. They form strong bonds with new furry friends and may even become attached in an incredibly short amount of time. That being said, the level of acceptance, and even friendship, with other animals depends on the dog's individual temperament and how it is trained. Aussiedoodles are incredibly intelligent and, with the right guidance, can learn to interact with other animals in a respectful way.
The amount of time needed to train Aussiedoodles will depend on the individual pup's temperament and energy level as well as the motivation of the trainer. Generally speaking, it's recommended to dedicate anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour of training per day. To ensure that a pup is learning quickly and effectively, it's important to keep each session consistent but diverse. You should also aim to take frequent but shorter breaks throughout the day. Having well-defined boundaries and clear rewards can also prove very successful in motivating Aussiedoodles.
