Bernedoodles are a hybrid designer cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, typically either a Standard or Miniature Poodle. Bernedoodles are recognized by the ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club) and are known for their intelligence and amicable personalities. They are often referred to as “Einstein dogs” because they are highly trainable and excel in mental stimulation. They tend to be loyal, affectionate, and light-hearted with a love of play.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed that is often considered to be non-shedding. This does not mean, however, that they don't shed at all. Due to their hybrid status, Bernedoodles will have characteristics from both of their parent breeds, the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. As such, Bernedoodle shedding patterns will largely depend on the size and coat type of the individual dog.
With Bernedoodles being a relatively new hybrid, there is not a specific dog food designed for them. However, a premium, high-protein food specifically formulated for large-breed puppies, which is nutritionally richer than either of its parent breeds (Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle), is recommended. Furthermore, the food should include ample sources of antioxidants and Omega fatty acids to support healthy skin and coat. For adult Bernedoodles, a premium, high-quality food should also be chosen but intended for all life stages.
