Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid dog breed, created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. As a result, they have some of the same desirable traits of both their parent breeds. Bernedoodles are usually lowto non-shedding, depending on the amount of inheritance they receive from their Poodle parent. This makes them well-suited for families with allergies. They are very intelligent, active dogs, and they are usually good with children, other dogs, and other animals, making them an excellent choice for a family pet.
Generally speaking, Bernedoodles should not cause you to have allergies. Bernedoodles are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, and since both breeds are hypoallergenic, their offspring tends to have the same low-allergen properties. However, as with all breeds, the individual may have an allergic reaction to certain things, such as dander, saliva or even food. To ensure the Bernedoodle won't have an adverse reaction, you should do an allergy test with your veterinarian and keep the dog well groomed.
Determining what not to feed Bernedoodles can be a challenge, but there are certain items to avoid. Firstly, it's essential to never feed them dairy products, including milk, yogurt, cheese, and ice cream, as it can upset their stomachs. Additionally, it's best to stay away from processed human food such as hot dogs, candy, and chips as Bernedoodles are not built to digest these foods. Too much sugar is also not recommended because it can lead to health problems and should be kept to a minimum.
Bernedoodles can have unique needs that differ from other breeds. Basic care requirements for Bernedoodles are similar to those for other breeds, such as necessary yearly veterinary check-ups, socialization, good nutrition, and regular exercise. In addition, Bernedoodles may be prone to hip dysplasia, and regular bone and joint care may be needed. Bernedoodles have thick, curly coats so they may require extra grooming, as well as periodic professional grooming appointments. They may also need extra dental care as they can be prone to dental problems due to their genetics.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed, a mix between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Though their size can vary greatly, depending on the size of the parent breeds, it's safe to say that Bernedoodles are usually mid-sized dogs, somewhere between 30-45 pounds, and 18-22 inches tall. Still, Bernedoodles are typically larger and more muscular than average breeds, making them appear bigger than they actually are. Additionally, a Bernedoodle's thick, silky coat can also give the illusion of being larger than they actually are.
Bernedoodles generally need a significant amount of exercise to stay healthy and content. These playful pups require a daily walk or run, plus some sort of activity like frisbee or fetch. Generally, an hour of exercise a day is a reasonable requirement for these dogs. Depending on their energy levels, they may need more or less exercise, but it is important to provide enough physical and mental stimulation to keep them from becoming bored and developing behavioral issues. Exercise can also help to continue socializing them and allow them to interact with other animals and humans.
Absolutely! Due to their pleasant personalities, calming demeanor, and intelligence, Bernedoodles are an excellent choice for first-time owners. Bernedoodles are easy to train, as they're highly devoted to their owners and sincerely want to please them—making them great for those new to training dogs. Plus, their good-natured behavior and intelligence make Bernedoodles well-suited to families with small children, making them pretty much perfect for first-time owners.
Bernedoodles are considered to be very intelligent dogs, as they contain both the Bernese Mountain Dog's strong used for herding and guarding and the Poodle's incredible sense of smell and eagerness to please. Bernedoodles are known for their quick learning abilities and strong work ethic. They tend to be highly trainable and attentive to their owners, which helps them quickly learn new commands and tricks. Bernedoodles' social behavior and natural intelligence make them great family dogs that will always be up for playtime with family and friends.
