Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are an incredibly popular mix of the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle breeds. They make for an excellent companion and are incredibly loyal, loving, and smart pets. These unique pooches are known for their intelligence and easy-to-train attitude. They have a playful nature and adore spending time with their owners. Physically, Bernedoodles have the beautiful, thick, wavy fur of a Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle's slightly slimmer build.
The Bernedoodle coat varies depending on the crossbreed used for the original Bernedoodle. Generally, these dogs have a silky, long coat. However, because of its poodle lineage, different crosses can produce a soft, wiry, curly, or wavy coat. Depending on the season, their coat can either be straight or wavy. Depending on the dog, some may require less grooming while others may require more. Generally, Bernedoodles have minimal shedding and come in a range of colors, including black, white, tan, and brown.
Bernedoodles typically have similar dietary needs to other breeds of the same size and activity level. Whether you feed commercial dog food or homemade meals, a healthy diet should include a balanced combination of protein, fats, fruits, and vegetables. Since Bernedoodles are usually quite active, providing ample amounts of balanced proteins and fats will help your pup maintain their energy levels. Adding healthy fruits and vegetables can provide natural vitamins and minerals, and make sure that you are giving your pup adequate amounts of fiber to keep them regular.
To prepare your home for your new Bernedoodle, there are a few key things to consider. First, make sure that you puppy-proof your house by hiding away important items like phones, wallets, and in-case of accidents remove breakable items and electrical cords. Make sure to provide plenty of space for playing and also a designated area for potty-training and sleeping. Additionally, functionality of items should be taken into account consider getting a low-sided bed for your pup to easily hop in and out of, or if you have stairs, look into a puppy gate.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed produced by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. As a result, the size of a Bernedoodle can vary greatly depending on the size of its parent breeds. The Bernese Mountain Dog typically ranges from 23 to 28 inches tall, while Poodles come in three different sizes: standard, miniature, and toy – with heights ranging from 10 to 15 inches, 10 to 11 inches, and up to 10 inches respectively.
It depends on your Bernedoodle's age, breed, size, and current level of fitness. Generally, adult Bernedoodle walks should last about 15 to 20 minutes, split into two or three shorter sessions during the day. If your Bernedoodle is still a pup, it is important to limit the amount and the intensity of the exercise to prevent joint and bone issues. Puppies should ideally have one to two walks per day of roughly 10 minutes each. By the time they're around one year old, you can gradually increase the distance and intensity.
Bernedoodles are excellent family dogs, as they are loving, loyal, and possess excellent temperaments. They are known for being friendly, which makes them the perfect pet for households with children. Bernedoodles are also highly intelligent and can be trained with relative ease. They are active, but not overly so, so while they do need plenty of exercise, they are happy to snuggle up in the home when it's time to relax. They are also incredibly patient and tolerant of young children, making them a great companion for families with children of all ages.
Training Bernedoodles requires a daily commitment. An effective training plan should specify the amount of daily minutes spent on specific activities with your Bernedoodle. Generally, it is recommended to spend at least 30 minutes per day on physical activities such as walking, running, and fetching, as well as further 5-10 minutes for mental and physical stimulation. Furthermore, allot another 10-15 minutes for reinforcing basic commands, such as sit, stay, and come.
