Questions & Answers
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Bernedoodles is the combination of intelligence, personality, and good looks. Bernedoodles are hybrid dogs that have been bred to combine the best of two worlds: the Bernese Mountain Dog with the Poodle, one of the most intelligent breeds of dog around. The resulting Bernedoodle has a bright, friendly, and energetic temperament. They are also highly trainable, making them great family pets, as well as great working dogs too.
Bernedoodles do not generally cause people to have allergies. While all dogs produce allergens, Bernedoodles are 'hypoallergenic' because they have a mixture of two hypoallergenic parent breeds; the Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. The coat of a Bernedoodle contains fewer allergens than a typical dog resulting in less sneezing, itching and watery eyes. Furthermore, by brushing the coat regularly to keep it healthy and groomed, allergens are spread less as much of the allergens are removed before release into the air.
Your Bernedoodle should have a balanced diet that includes protein, vegetables, grains, healthy fats, and supplements, such as vitamins and minerals. Feed your Bernedoodle a high-quality food formulated for their size and activity level. Talk to your veterinarian to ensure your Bernedoodle is getting all the essential nutrients they need. Foods that should be avoided include chocolate, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages, which can be poisonous to your Bernedoodle. Additionally, you should avoid feeding your Bernedoodle high-fat foods, as obesity can lead to a variety of health problems.
Before welcoming your new Bernedoodle home, make sure your home is prepared and ready. Start by researching the breed's needs. Bernedoodles are typically active and require regular exercise. The next step is to puppy-proof the house. Make sure any dangerous items like cleaning supplies and medications are stored safely out of reach. Next, consider the necessary supplies such as food and water dishes, toys, a bed, and a crate. Then, determine a routine for your pup, including meal times, exercise times, potty breaks, and bedtime.
Bernedoodles can be considered big dogs depending on their size. Typically, they will average 17 to 25 inches in height and 32 to 73 pounds in weight when fully grown. Generally, puppies purchased from a breeder should be expected to reach their full size potential by 18 months. It is important to keep in mind that different breeders specialize in various Bernedoodle sizes, so the size a Bernedoodle eventually grows to will vary depending on the breeder. In general, the Giant Bernedoodles are considered the largest breed and should remain within the higher end of the size range.
Bernedoodles need quite a lot of daily exercise in order to stay healthy, happy, and maintain their physical fitness. They are an active breed that needs at least an hour of physical activity per day including regular walks and playtime. When it comes to activities, Bernedoodles can get involved in all sorts of activities, from swimming and agility courses to hiking and training. Additionally, you should look into providing your Bernedoodle with mentally stimulating activities, such as obedience classes and puzzle games, to challenge them and keep them engaged.
Bernedoodles are an excellent choice for first-time owners. They are an intelligent, affectionate designer breed, with personality traits taken from both their Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parts. They are eager to please their owners, which makes them easier to train. Bernedoodles have a lot of energy, so they need lots of exercise and activities great for owners who like to stay active too. Since they are a hybrid breed, they also benefit from being less prone to common health concerns that purebred dogs can suffer from.
Training your Bernedoodle is easy if you know where to start! Begin by establishing yourself as the leader in the beginning to assure a healthy and balanced relationship that will last a lifetime. Establishing expectations and providing rewards for ideal behavior is key. Utilize positive reinforcement and avoid negative reinforcement which may cause anxiety and behavioral issues. Regularly scheduled obedience classes are also a great way to teach your Bernedoodle commands and build a strong bond. Provide exercise tailored to your dog's energy level to ensure they stay in shape both mentally and physically.
