Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a unique and interesting breed! They are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, making them a "designer" breed. Bernedoodles are incredibly smart and loyal due to their two parent breeds being incredibly intelligent, making training them a breeze. Plus, they are usually lowto non-shedding and hypoallergenic. This means that they are perfect for anyone living with allergies! In addition, Bernedoodles are very happy, active, and social dogs. They are great with children, as well as other pets.
Bernedoodles offer a unique combination of the gentle and friendly nature of Bernese Mountain Dogs and the low-shedding quality of poodles. While their coat cannot be guaranteed as completely non-shedding, they generally do not shed like a Bernese Mountain Dog and can be a great match for people with allergies due to their low-shedding coat. Bernedoodles come in different sizes and coat types, such as curly or wavy, and some can even have a hypoallergenic coat.
Generally speaking, Bernedoodles should be fed a high-quality, nutritionally balanced diet tailored to their size, age, and activity level. As with all dogs, a Bernedoodle should never be overfed, and treats should be doled out in moderation—a little goes a long way! Depending on their size and activity level, a Bernedoodle may need anywhere between one and four cups of kibble per day. It's important to portion out their kibble carefully to make sure they are getting the proper amount of nutrition, and overfeeding should be avoided.
Yes, Bernedoodles do have unique requirements. To properly care for a Bernedoodle, their different coat types must be addressed. Since they are a mix of both Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle, they have two different coat types. The wool coat is dense and should be kept lightly trimmed, while the hair coat is trickier to groom. With hair coats, the hair should be left flowing; however, it will need to be brushed and maintained more regularly.
Bernedoodles are considered a mediumto large-sized breed depending on the type of Bernedoodle you have. Standard Bernedoodles generally range from 50 – 90 lbs., and Miniature Bernedoodles range from 25 – 50 lbs. Due to their size, Bernedoodles can look quite intimidating, but they are incredibly gentle and affectionate with a dash of goofiness that makes them irresistible. Although they don't necessarily need a lot of physical activity, Bernedoodles do best when they get a fair amount of exercise to fulfill their active and intelligent nature.
Bernedoodles are moderately active, though the level of activity may depend on the primary breed being used in the mix. Generally, they are an intelligent, friendly, and loyal dog that loves to have physical and mental exercises. They have a moderate energy level and can adapt to various activities, such as running, playing, and even being a good companion dog.
Yes, Bernedoodles can make very good family pets. These loyal, intelligent and loving dogs are gentle, dedicated, and affectionate. Their even temperaments make them easy to train, and they are highly trainable and highly devoted to their owners. Bernedoodles are also known for being great with other animals and kids, and they rarely shed, which makes them an excellent choice for the allergy sufferer. All in all, these pooches are the perfect choice for anyone looking for a family-friendly, loving, and loyal pet.
Training a Bernedoodle requires patience and diligence, but is also enjoyable for you and your pup! To get started, it's important to create a structured, calm environment for your pup to understand when it's time to train. It's best to start with basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', and 'come', using positive reinforcement methods to reward your pup for following instructions. Establish a training routine and take time each day to instruct your pup. Most importantly, stay consistent and end each session on a positive note.
