While it is possible to have an allergic reaction to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, it is not a common occurrence. To determine whether or not you have an allergy to a specific dog, you may want to speak with an allergist or an Animal Allergy and Intolerance therapist. Depending on your symptoms, your doctor can provide you with tests to determine if you have a sensitivity to an animal or dog in particular. If found, your doctor may be able to provide you with an allergy plan, suggesting medications or other steps to help manage your reactions when exposed to the allergen.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are typically fed a diet similar to that of their human guardians. They should consume high-quality dry kibble formulated with an appropriate balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and other essential nutrients. Additionally, these breeds can safely enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables, such as chopped apples, carrots, and boiled sweet potatoes. The occasional snack of cooked lean meats can also provide additional forms and benefits. As with all canines, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should only eat treats made with healthy ingredients and in moderation.
Preparing your home for a new Cavalier King Charles involves creating a safe and comfortable space for your pet. Firstly, invest in items that'll make your pup feel safe such as a dog bed, crate, and toys. Secondly, set aside a specific area of the home as your pup's territory that will become the regular spot for your furry friend to spend most of their time. Thirdly, create a safe outdoor space for playing and walking that's secure enough to prevent your pup from escaping.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four size varieties. These include Toy (or "Miniature"), Blenheim, Prince Charles, and the Ruby. Toy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels typically weigh between 5 and 14 pounds, which is similar in weight to a Chihuahua or a Shih Tzu. Blenheims, which are often referred to as show dogs, typically have a white and reddish-brown colored coat. Prince Charles Cavaliers usually weigh between 13 and 18 pounds and have dark black and tan markings.
Cavalier King Charles's are a small, active breed, so they need more exercise than some other breeds of the same size. Depending on their age, they should get around an hour of exercise per day, ranging from a brisk walk in the neighborhood or a game of fetch at the beach or park. At a minimum, they should receive at least 25 minutes of moderate-to-strenuous exercise per day, otherwise it can affect their physical and mental health.
Generally speaking, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels do very well with children and make for excellent family pets. In reality, the degree to which Cavalier King Charles Spaniels get along with kids is dependant upon the individual dog and its training and socialization as a puppy. If properly socialized and taught good behavior from an early age, the Cavaliers will make for a wonderful companion to children of all ages. In short, Cavaliers tend to get along quite well with kids and make for wonderful family companions when provided with the correct upbringing.
