According to the American Kennel Club, they date back to sixteenth century Europe when the royals favored them as small hunting dogs as well as lapdogs. Through the centuries, breed standards have been established and today, the breed is updated with genetic testing to maintain its good health. It's amazing how far these beloved dogs have come in such a short time.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are considered to be moderate shedders and do require regular brushing and grooming. However, they are known to have longer, silky coats that do not shed as much as other breeds. With regular brushing and trimming, the shedding can be kept to a minimum. While they may shed some, they are not a non-shedding breed of dog and do require regular care and grooming.
