Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos have grown in popularity since this new hybrid breed has emerged, as they are loving, loyal, and very intelligent.
Cavapoos are considered to be hypoallergenic dogs. This is because they have a low level of dander, which is the cause of many allergy symptoms. Cavapoos also tend to be low-shedding dogs, so their fur does not spread as much of the dander as other breeds would. This means the amount of allergens in the air may be greatly reduced. Furthermore, they possess a non-shedding coat which eliminates the need for frequent brushing that would cause some people with allergies to experience flare-ups.
Cavapoos typically have similar dietary requirements to other small breeds of dog. However, due to their impressive hybrid genetics, they tend to have a heightened sensitivity when it comes to certain foods and additives. It is best to check with a veterinarian to determine the ideal diet to meet the individual needs of your Cavapoo. As with most breeds, it is sensible to feed your pet a quality commercial diet that is tailored to provide all the necessary nutrients for optimum health.
Cavapoos have some special requirements that should be considered. Since Cavapoos are a hybrid of both a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, they require the care of both breeds. As such, they have two different coats: the smooth Cavapoo, with its poodle-like fur, requires brushing multiple times a week; while the larger, thicker-coated Cavapoo needs to be groomed every two weeks. Additionally, Cavapoos have a high energy level like their Poodle ancestor and require a regular exercise routine to stay fit both mentally and physically.
Cavapoos are considered small to medium dogs and do not typically reach the size of a large breed canine. Cavapoos are generally between 9 and 15 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 10 to 25 pounds when fully grown. While some Cavapoo parents do opt to breed larger dogs, the American Kennel Club does not recognize breeds weighing over 25 pounds as true Cavapoos. The American Kennel Club does, however, recognize the weight range of 10 to 25 pounds as optimal for this breed.
Cavapoos require about 30 minutes of exercise a day, depending on the activity level of the individual pup. It's best to take your Cavapoo for two 20-minute walks a day if possible. You can also opt to include activities like fetch or swimming in their exercise routine. At least 10 minutes of active play will help keep your pup mentally stimulated as well as physically active.
Cavapoos are generally excellent family dogs and make great companions for children of all ages. They are known for their gentleness, intelligence, and hypoallergenic, low-shedding coats. Cavapoos are naturally eager to please, patient, and highly adaptable, making them suitable for learning all kinds of basic obedience commands. Cavapoos thrive on the attention and love of their families and also get along well with other pets in the household.
Training a Cavapoo can vary in difficulty depending on how much time and effort you put into it. This type of dog is known to be intelligent and eager to please, two qualities that make them relatively easy to train. With that said, training a Cavapoo requires consistency and patience. Establishing boundaries, rules, and a routine is essential, and rewarding your pup with verbal praise, petting, or treats can help make the process smoother.
